665486 2008-05-04 08:50:00 Thanks everyone for the informative replies; I agree it's difficult to navigate their web site for the free version, which then sends you to download com. Good idea Chilling Silence to just input the URL. Perhaps Avast might be the one as well, as it seems to be a much smaller program... kahawai chaser (3545)
665487 2008-05-04 09:03:00 Thats coz they want you to pay for it ;)

Remember:
free.grisoft.com

Even from there it takes a fair bit of navigating to get to the download page. They've done it about right to improve sales of their commerical product though IMO.

665488 2008-05-04 12:57:00 I've upgraded (my vista install is using it) I prefer the new interface much more than the old one. as for actual virus detection I can't say.

Still, any antivirus is better than none (unless it's a cracked version someone downloads that has a virus that comes with it - seen that in a cracked kaspersky installer, pretty funny actually)

665489 2008-05-05 00:01:00 I wasn't very impressed with my install to Vista over avg7. The installer stopped working with an error. I re-ran it and it finished. Rebooted Vista and got a BSOD (stop 7E)! Restarted it and it loaded. So, not very impressed. My machine has been stable since but I hesitate to load it onto other machines. linw (53)
665490 2008-05-05 00:48:00 I installed it (XP) when I read that they wouldn't be supporting the old version beyond end of May. Seems fine, though web pages and mail scanning cause a microsecond or so delay, which I find hard to tolerate. Generally fine though annie (6010)

Bit of a concern having installation errors. You would think AVG 8 should install relatively easily over AVG 7.5, unless there are unknown issues/bugs with IE 7 and/or possible conflicts with other programs that are running...
