| 666159 | 2008-05-05 07:13:00 | Hi, I've just bought a pair of 512mb RAM(133) sticks hoping that one or both would put new life into, one or both of, my elderly computers. Both computers were bought 2nd hand; and I don't know much about them, other than their existing RAM is 133; and it is that, that made me think they'd work - but they don't. Both mother boards have space for 3 RAM, and both are on Ubuntu(6.06 and 7.10). I've tried mixing with existing RAM but the presence of both together or otherwise prevents start up getting as far as log-in. Has anyone any suggestions please..........sarum |

| 666160 | 2008-05-05 07:19:00 | Whats the model/brands of the mobos? Or are they Dell or HP systems? If theyre old, they may support up to 768 MB not 1 GB. (Thats the mobo's limit, not the OS limit) Thats why it wont boot or work with the 2 sticks of 512 MB It may have 3 slots, BUT you can only put 256 MB in each slot |

| 666163 | 2008-05-06 07:46:00 | Have you tried putting the larger 512Mb sticks in the first slots (closest to the processor) & the smaller stick in the second slot. This is frequently a problem with computers not being able to read RAM. | fnphoto (2434) | ||
