665476 2008-05-03 10:59:00 I have just found out on Computer Hope (www.computerhope.com) that there is a AVG upgrade to free version 8. I'm using 7.5.524, but yet there was no reference to the upgrade when doing the usual AVG incremental updates. Why no reference? Anyone else here upgraded? If so, any noticeable differences or benefits? Thanks... kahawai chaser (3545)
665477 2008-05-03 12:01:00 I'd say they wont push it out through auto-updates like that to save on having everybody just *upgrade*. This also gives them a better indication of how many installs are actually active as well :) Chilling_Silence (9)
665478 2008-05-03 12:03:00 Don't think there will be an upgrade as such.
Eventually they will stop supporting V7.5, like they did when V7 came out they stopped supporting V6.
You will get a popup screen telling you to go and download the new version.

665479 2008-05-03 12:15:00 Yep, installed it on my bro's computer last weekend after doing Trend Micro's online House Call antivirus check (not as good as it used to be, are they not updating the definitions, didnt find Zlob), and found another 9 infected files, so I for one would recommend it. The program interface has been updated and seems to be easier to use. feersumendjinn (64)
665480 2008-05-03 12:24:00 Each morning I manually check for the daily updates.

On my AVG screen there is a section advising there is an update to version 8.0 and to click on it to download now.

cheers,
Marnie

665481 2008-05-03 14:04:00 Used it today and the only major difference seems to be the interface like feers.. said. Din't really check the memory footprint though.

Still prefer Avast.

665482 2008-05-03 19:50:00 Yes my 7.5 says I must upgrade to v 8.00 free by 31st May or there will be no more free updates !

That is not much time !

That is good, but I wish they would update their web site user interface it is very hard to navigate and VERY hard to find AVG free (it is hidden away somewhere)

665484 2008-05-03 22:16:00 Thats coz they want you to pay for it ;)

Remember:
free.grisoft.com

I had the same problem ages ago trying to track it down until I learned you could just type that URL in! :D

665485 2008-05-04 07:11:00 Its brilliant. Scans all the web pages and has prevented me from proceeding a couple of times. Doesn't seem to slow anything down. mzee (3324)
