381757 2005-08-17 03:10:00 When I first read about Zotob (a plug-and-play vulnerability), Microsoft had dismissed it as a minor, insignificant threat . MS said that only W2K and non-SP2 XP systems were vulnerable and issued patches .

Unfortunately, it now turns out that internet vandals have jumped on it so fast, that the delay between the patch issue and exploitation is very very short (less than 3 days) . Hence, a large number of systems, amongst them corporate ones that would take time to patch, have been affected, as reported by InfoWeek ( . com/story/showArticle . jhtml?articleID=168602115" target="_blank">informationweek . com) .

It looks like vandals are cooperating more to subvert the response to malware . They can now beat the patch issue-patch application cycle, and it is probably the same for virus signature updates for anti-virus scanners .
