| 667127 | 2008-05-07 22:34:00 | My Toshiba M 30 Notebook is on its last legs (Integrated "video card" stuffed). I've looked at HP, Compaq, Toshiba and Dell for a possible replacement, but can anyone give me a "heads up" on the reliability/comparative specs/support/other stuff for ASUS notebooks? If you want to expand your comments to cover the other brands that would be good as well ( is this where I run foul of the moderator?). At the moment, 'cos i'm on a limited budget, I'm looking at an HP Pavillion dv6822TX (Thrive Special Edition) Notebook. see: h10010.www1.hp.com I need to take "other things" into account eg the new Dells have a "slot" type optical drive bay which apparently can cause problems with mini DVD discs, the Toshibas have gone very "chunky" with the case, a lot of notebook keyboards seem to put the "delete" key in the top right hand corner near the backspace key whereas I'm used to it being down on the right so I can do "CTRL > ALT > DELETE" quickly, does the keyboard and touch pad feel good etc, etc Thanks in advance Tui |

| 667129 | 2008-05-08 00:36:00 | I've owned a couple of Asus laptops, while the first one was ok, the second one (A4 series) managed to burn out its wifi module, no biggie just use a pcmcia type, and develop a rather nasty screen rolling issues. Asus New zealands technical support and after sales care did not meet my expectations and i would recommend doing anything you can to avoid them. Video cards, motherboards etc, Asus all the way, Laptops never ever again. Dell laptops i find to be rather good, if you buy via the webpage you can get a nice price, their after sales care is great, and they offer an awesome warranty. (no i dont work for dell) |

| 667133 | 2008-05-08 00:55:00 | I like ASUS. I like the 3yr warranty model Toshibas too. "Not only is ASUS ranked in the top 5 ODM companies in the world, their reputation in quality is second to none. Quality and Quality Control is the main reason. They have small and slim 12.1" laptops, to sexy, portable and light 14.1" laptops, Affordable yet slick gaming 15.4" laptops, to full media center 17" laptops. With unbeatable quality, customization and unheard of customer service. Clevo makes the Sager NP9262, the Alienware Area 51, the Voodoo Envy, the Hypersonic Aero ...they are all the same computer. Compal makes some of the the DELL, Hewlett Packard and Compaqs. Quanta makes many of the Dell Latitude and Lenovo (IBM laptops. Asustek currently has notebook orders from Apple computer, Sony, Samsung Electronics and JVC. They also make their own." |

| 667135 | 2008-05-08 01:25:00 | Umm.. you can't really compare them. Try half the price...probably similar/better quality, I honestly don't know. You gotta compare apples to apples, not apples to squashes. | wratterus (105) | ||
