667041 2008-05-07 21:06:00 Okay, I've replaced the 256mg with one 1GB of ram and it is working great.
My question is, now I have a single 256mg module hanging around in my drawer doing nothing.
I've read that my laptop supports dual-channel memory and so I shouldn't really add the 256mb to the laptop.
Is this correct?

Thanks,
Stummer

667042 2008-05-07 21:17:00 If it is 1x1GB stick or RAM and you want to add the 1x256MB of RAM, the laptop will not be running in dual channel, so adding the 256MB stick will not have any difference in speed as it is not running in dual channel anyway.

BUT if you have 2X512MB sticks, and it is running in dual channel, then adding the 256MB stick will cause the RAM to run in single channel. It will not have any issues running like this, just the speed will be halved.

It is up to you if you want more RAM or more speed. Try it and see.
