2008-05-07 09:03:00 | The telltale sign of a crappy broadband connection is when YouTube videos start to buffer, even though you've only used 20% of your monthly 5gb allowance of "7.6mbps download/128kbps upload". When I rang my connection through Speedtest.net, I got only 594kbps download on a wireless connection, and 620kbps on a cabled connection. Come on Ihug, what's the big idea? I'm paying $50 a month for a service which is complete rubbish, my connections have never been this low before. Yes, I realise it is "peak time", but 594k compared to a theoretical 7.6mb... that's just a BIT of a difference! Does anyone else find their speed lagging on Ihug lately? Or am I the only one? And, what would you recommend to thoroughly check my line & router? (D-Link modem, cat5 cable into D-link wireless router. Laptop PC, running Norton Internet Security, AMD Turon64 with 512mb ram).

2008-05-07 18:24:00 | Yes I have found Ihug/Vodaphone's (There was nothing wrong with the name Ihug. If it aint broke don't fix it Ihug!) alleged ADSL to be slower than a wet week of late. I tried to download AVG version 8 the other day and was getting down as low as 19k/bs at times. I naturally abandoned that as Dial up would be faster. mm A check on Ihug's site showed the message no network problems. If they don't think their painfully slow speed is not a problem, I hate to think what they think is. J W D

2008-05-07 20:53:00 | That's why I'm still with Xtra Stu - all the other providers are up and down, at least Xtra stays the same. I just think that everybody else do have to get their bandwidth from Xtra, so who will be the last to "drop off" or something? Xtra. sarel

2008-05-07 22:08:00 | It depends for me, some nights i'll be lucky to get 20-30KB/s other nights it runs at a more respectable 300KB/s. Last night was slow, night before was fine. | autechre (266) | |
2008-05-09 10:30:00 | After waiting 26 minutes to get to speak to a human, I was told yes, we are aware of problems with Broadband and our experts are looking into the matter. Of course the human had no response when I asked what compensation I could expect to receive :( Their message of the day as at 09.37pm tonight, reads: Broadband Speed Issues 2008-05-08 17:15:09 What’s the problem? Some ihug broadband customers may be experiencing poor broadband speeds at the moment. When did the problem start? The 3rd of May. What are we doing to fix it? Our engineers know about this problem and are working to fix it as quickly as possible so you can get back online. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you. What’s the latest update? This has been escalated to our wholesale provider. When will it be fixed?: We’re still investigating the problem so we can’t tell you exactly when it will be fixed yet – but we’ll let you know as soon as we know more. Thanks for your patience! I am currently averaging 500kbs for downloads and 91 for uploads - my old dial-up was faster What a load of *^$$!!

2008-05-10 04:26:00 | No worries at my place. Downloads still coming through at up to 780Kbytes/sec. Youtube plays smooth as while doing P2P at the same time. | Big John (551) | |
2008-05-10 05:49:00 | I dunno, I have 2 broadband accounts. I have 2 locations. Speeds are nice at one. Slow at the other - regardless what ISP it is. Why do people always blame the ISP, theres a lot more to it than that.

2008-05-10 06:46:00 | Yup - rang em and baled them up about it - have been getting no better than 300kbs all week - absolutely pathetic - then they try and make it acceptable by telling me hundreds of people are affected! There's even an admission of the crap service if you can be bothered looking.... I rekon when they advertise a 7.6Mbs max speed and cant even provide a service that reaches 5% of that they don't deserve to be in business - I'm walkin.....
