666551 2008-05-06 10:40:00 I've spent a good few hours today reading all the information on the Xnet site and searching the web, reading other people's posts. However, I'm left with a couple of questions that I hope someone might be able to shed some light on:

1. I think I get the idea that it's better to buy an all-in-one router/adapter rather than buying a separate device to plug into an existing router. However these seem pretty expensive so I'm looking at just buying the adapter. But I don't want to buy one and then find out it was a mistake because my router "wasn't the right kind". The router we have is a NetGear MBR814X - we have been using it with Woosh wireless. Any thoughts?

2. We would like to get a portable phone to plug into the router/adapter. Xnet's recommended list of hardware does not list a portable phone. The lady on the phone at Xnet today said they "do not support phones that aren't on their hardware list". So that leaves me a little worried if we buy a portable and it doesn't work - does Xnet say "ooops, too bad, should have bought one of ours"??

Thanks for any help/comments.

Cheers
Susan

666552 2008-05-06 10:59:00 Hi Susan,

That router is apparently a re-badged Linksys WRT54G3G from what I can tell.

You'll need any old ADSL router, and it'd be worth a shot getting the people here to help you with setting it up. If they cant, then it'd be around $150 for something like the Linksys SPA2102 which is an officially supported ATA (Analogue Telephony Adapter), so you can then use any old standard cordless phone with it :)

Hope this helps

666553 2008-05-06 11:09:00 Thanks Chill

I think I'm getting myself all confused here. Maybe it's too late at night for my brain ;-)

From what I understand from Xnet I need either a router with a modem & adapter built in (like the Linksys WAG54GP2v2) OR I can use an existing router and buy an adapter (like the SPA2102).

I just don't understand if my router has a modem in it? that sounds incredibly dumb but my router experience is pretty basic. Woosh had a wee card we pushed into the router to make it work :)

666554 2008-05-06 11:18:00 I have a Netgear wireless router and a linksys ATA (PAP2T) and I use a cordless phone. They all work fine with Fusion. The cordless phone is a basic Panasonic. lakewoodlady (103)
666555 2008-05-06 11:22:00 Thanks ladwoodlady. What type of ATA did you get out of curiosity? I read somewhere that the SPA2102 was preferred over PAP2T.

Nice to know that the basic cordless is working well for you :)

666556 2008-05-06 11:30:00 Well, it just seemed suitable enough for my particular set up and it was cheaper. lakewoodlady (103)
666557 2008-05-06 11:46:00 From what I understand the PAP2T is a discontinued product? I could be wrong.

They're pretty much the same deal though, just go with whatever is easier to get your hands on / cheaper :)

Unfortunately I dont believe that IS an ATA Adapter, so you'll need to purchase one...

Not sure what you mean by that?

666559 2008-05-06 12:09:00 The NetGear MBR814X...

An ATA Adapter allows you to plug a regular phone in and use it over VoIP.
The SPA2102 is an ATA Adapter, as is the PAP2T.

The NetGear MBR814X is not, so Susan will need to purchase one, as well as an ADSL router (Fusion is the ADSL + VoIP package, so presuming here she's ditching woosh to go with naked DSL)

You will need a new router - your Woosh router doesn't have an ADSL modem built in. With that in mind, the best option would be an all in one device.
