2008-05-06 00:16:00 | Hi We have a Canon DC 310 min DVD camcorder. I’ve recorded scenes on a –RW mini DVD, finalised the disc and put it into my wife’s Compaq Presario V6something notebook computer running Windows Vista Business. It plays fine with the installed (default) HP DVD player software - sound is good and so is picture quality on full screen. However, when I try to play it thru Windows Media Player (Ver 11.0.6000.6336) I just get the visuals without the sound. I've also copied the various scenes from the DVD to the hard drive to its own folder. The videos play from the hard drive OK but the sound is still missing (volume control icon is slid up tu full). (The same things (don't) happen with commercially produced DVDs) I’ve tried the same scenarios on my Toshiba Satellite M 30 laptop and it plays fine with sound direct from the DVD and a copy of the DVD on the hard drive. – this works with both Inter Video Win DVD 4 (came pre-installed) and Windows Media player 10.x.y.z. etc. I know some will say “if it works with the pre-installed DVD software what’s the problem?” but I’m a picky individual and it should work thru Win Media player! So, is it a Vista (Business) prob, Win Media player prob, a combination of both or something else, and what do I do? Thanks in advance

2008-05-06 10:51:00 | This should help also www.free-codecs.com The problem is most likely that WMP does not have the right codec (coder/decoder) to play the sound track (whatever it is, may not be ac3), this codec pack will cover most possibilities. WMP will often offer to download the correct codec if it cant play the file, but I think you have to turn this behaviour on (in OPTIONS?)

2008-05-06 23:10:00 | Thanks for the replies people Following your leads and looking at various bits on the web it seem that Vista Business does not come with a full DVD decoder and that you have to purchase one !! Can anyone confirm this?? Cheers

2008-05-06 23:28:00 | Yup, according to this (www.roxio.com) Premium, and Ultimate support DVD, the others dont So, you'll have to install some program that installs codecs (and thats compat with your version) Just install a compat version of PowerDVD, if you have a copy of it

Perhaps the idea is that if you have Vista Business installed on your company's computers then your employees' productivity will remain high because they're not so distracted!! | tuiruru (12277) | ||
