383496 2005-08-24 21:54:00 Hi Team

I have a good friend in Hamilton who needs to set up a simple website. He is developing an innovative product to protect pregnant women (or more importantly, their foetus) from the electromagnetic radiation from cellphones and other radio-frequency sources.

This is not one of those "crystal around the neck" faith-based ideas, the product is a garment that includes a layer of very light fabric woven using thread with an integral core of silver-coated copper. The fabric shields RF very effectively and during tests I carried out on his behalf a cellphone enclosed in a pouch made of this material could not receive or send calls at all, no matter how close it was to a cellsite. Tests by the Australian and NZ military were also very positive.

My friend has no knowledge of web matters and will need somebody who can provide a full service including site design plus organising or providing hosting. It will not be a complex site, being more for information and contact than anything else and web sales are not a requirement at present.

Can anybody recommend a company or individual who could help him, and what kind of price range should he expect for the development work? Functionality and search ranking will be the key issues, not fancy bells and whistles.

Any and all suggestions are welcome, and if you are, or know of, a hot prospect, please PM me and after we understand each other on what is needed I'll put you in touch with him. He is a really nice guy and will be very easy to work with.

One final word, this is not a job for wannabe web site designers, some examples of current work live on the web, customer references, and some sort of track record are prerequisites.

Cheers

383497 2005-08-24 22:01:00 Passed a link to this thread onto someone who used to be exclusively a web designer. I don't know if they are still looking for new web design clients. But it can't hurt.

I think for this job the designer needs to have personal contact with the client so the Hamilton area is preferable, however should there be nobody suitable in Hamilton, he would definitely travel (within reason).

Problem is that there is nothing much within an hour's drive of Hamilton, and these days Auckland is likely to be a four hour round trip.

Early times yet though, this post has only been up an hour or so.

383500 2005-08-25 04:43:00 Does he mind that the website designer is in Auckland? or do they ** have ** to be in Hamilton? stu161204 (123)

No, ultimately they don't "have" to be in Hamilton, but as I already said, it is preferable because service provider & client will need to meet face to face at least in the initial phases . Travel time and cost then become an issue .

If somebody is prepared to travel to Hamilton at no cost to see him then that would be fine, but it doesn't do much for profitability . Best he looks at local options first before searching further afield . Surely there must be a number of web designers in Hamilton?
