383128 2005-08-23 06:42:00 It is a telegraph believe it or not. ;)

quote:
On a ship, it is a device with a lever for transmitting and acknowledging remotely the orders for engine movements; fitted in the wheel house where the order is given during manoeuvring, the engineers in the machinery space then acknowledge the order and adjust the main engine speed accordingly; the order may vary in steps from "Dead Slow", "Slow", "Half" and "Full" Ahead or Astern

383131 2005-08-23 12:21:00 WHY DOES IT COME BACK 2 THIS WEBSITE?
Your link constitutes a hotlink meaning you link directly to files on freewebs server. Basically they redirect traffic back to where it came from when you hotlink.

Thanks Jen, that equals the new thing I learnt today.

It was driving me bonkers trying to figure out why the URL bounced back here and why I couldn't fix it. :) Jen (38)

To differentiate from the more commonly used meanings of telegraph, it should be called a "ship's engine room telegraph" or a "marine telegraph".
