382606 2005-08-21 00:15:00 We have a KodakCX4200 camera. The battery that came with it is a double AA in a case. 1.2a & 1600mah, NI-MH, rechargeable, about two & half years old. The battery life is now very short before charging.
I have tried a pair of "Powerhaus" batts. 1.2v, 2300mah, NI-MH, newish.
After taking a few photos, when it is placed in its Dock it does not charge. Would that be because the battery level has not dropped sufficiently for charging to "Kick In" ? The Kodak Dock transformer output is 3v, 2.5A. The charger is 2.4v, 0.8a. If the batteries are put into the Powerhaus charger they will show a brief charge. However when flat will charge for about an hour. Thanks for any advice, PJ :help:

382607 2005-08-21 00:54:00 I don't know what they've done to stop other brands of battery charging but this is in the online manual. You may have to use the Powerhaus charger.

NOTE: The Camera Dock only charges the provided KODAK EASYSHARE Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery Pack. If you place the camera in the Camera Dock with any other type of batteries, rechargable or not, no charging takes place.

382609 2005-08-21 01:21:00 Looking at the images on Google, it would seem that there is a small plastic bit sandwiched in with the combined 2 Kodak AA cells. That probably allows the charge by activating a switch?

Should be obvious within the camera.

382610 2005-08-21 04:32:00 They might use a clever charge monitor chip in the Kodak battery pack, with the side-effect of requiring Kodak replacements. ;) Dallas make such things for nickel-XX chemistry as well as for lithium. Graham L (2)
382611 2005-08-21 05:42:00 gf & GL. Both thoughtd considered. On the battery pack are some protubereces which appear meaningless. Also a 'chip' as on some ink cartridges. I will investigate once I can get my hands on the camera agai, if ever !!!!
gf. Had a look at Dick Smiths today. They have a Fuji 550 (like yours ?) for $648. We looked at it & drooled, our Fuji 3500 & Kodak will do us. Thanks for the help both. PJ
