382988 2005-08-26 11:55:00 Because they can.

The cost is 5/8th of sod all, however it's the same reason Vodafone will "give you" 200 minutes for $30 then charge $1 per minute after that.

Also, I've just done the math, and I'm not getting anywhere near $4k for 20GB on any of their plans. What plan were you on?

Whatever it is, calculator makes it 20c per GB (exactly) which does ring a bell...

382989 2005-08-26 11:58:00 telsra's 10 gig cable plan is $139.00 by itself so I don't see how you are getting it for $ 69.00 triple service
here's a link to there cable plans here (www.telstraclear.co.nz) and another for there packages here (www.telstraclear.co.nz)

My friend pays 69.95 for Telstra cable with a 10gb cap (256k). He's on one of the old plans that aren't offered to new customers.

382990 2005-08-28 03:52:00 Hate to say it, but I agree with Plod here.

You're outta luck IMHO.

Here's how they're going to see it:
You asked to be charged 20c per MB (or however much it is) over and above the 10gb.
Intentionally using so much over or not is besides the point, you used their service, which you agreed to pay for when you signed up for the account.

I would suggest you havent really got a leg to stand on, although I am sympathetic to your cause.

Maybe time to opt for a plan which throttles you over and above 10gb instead. That way you know your bill.

382991 2005-08-28 03:58:00 Strange thing happened. Telstra called me today and offered me 2K credit. I haven't even ask them for relief yet, why would they do this? why would they be so nice suddenly?

I'm going to talk to them againI think you just take the credit, negotiate to pay off the balance, and count yourself lucky.

Very very lucky, a 1/2 price bill is very generous of Telstra Clear.
