2005-08-23 23:33:00 | Strange thing happened. Telstra called me today and offered me 2K credit. I haven't even ask them for relief yet, why would they do this? why would they be so nice suddenly? This just show that they checked and realized their service to me was wrong. Didn't give me the username and password, didn't send the bill to the latest address. I'm going to talk to them again | echo (8762) | |

2005-08-24 01:52:00 | I'd argue the point even more with them and squeeze more out of them. That's just me though. Ninja would probably suggest depositing the full amount of $4k anyway. Lo.

2005-08-26 01:57:00 | Well, not much sympathy for the original poster from the Wise Ones of PF1. Here is a dissenting view. What was Telstraclear thinking about when they sent out that bill? How many domestic internet users can pony up nearly $5000 for a monthly ISP bill? Yes, the bandwidth was used - but the explanation sounds very plausible. Yes, you should monitor your computer to ensure rogue software does not take control and cause problems. But rogue software originates from rogue individuals who do not give a stuff about the damage they do, and innocent people can get caught. I would hope that Telstraclear (of whom I am a long and faithful customer) could negotiate some way out of this mess without bankrupting this person. And I don't really believe that Telstraclear is $4778.31 out of pocket because of the excess useage.

2005-08-26 02:42:00 | This is a tricky one. They can't let people off all the time. On the other hand perhaps something along the lines of Telecoms policy about phone diallers? Once if you weren't aware of the problem, but a second time and you're stuck with the bill.

2005-08-26 03:10:00 | TelstraClear aren't "thinking about" anything when issuing multi-thousand dollar bills. Like most large organisations they stopped thinking when they installed computers. They don't have "sanity checks" to refer unusual accounts for human attention. | Graham L (2) | |
