666943 2008-05-07 11:52:00 Hmmmm - Ok off the top of my head, and its getting to late to think - What could be happening is when the default Vista drivers are loading, they are failing at the point of the Graphic Card.

Maybe - and its a bit hard to test this - since there is a few known issues with nVidia on Vista, you may need to have a slipstreamed vista with SP1 to install - thats only a guess as the error message appears to be hardware related.
In the workshop its easy enough to test as I would just use a Slipstreamed Vista SP1 or load a Vista Image instead of a install from DVD.

The other possible reason could be the drive is some way causing the problem or leave the RAM to run its tests over Night.

666944 2008-05-07 22:02:00 That win32k.sys file, used to crash (and this was the only file that crashed), on the other PC here (When XP SP2 was installed). I know the ram isnt the prob. It's been fine, since I installed it (about 4 yrs ago).

It only crashed on one game (Championship gin), for some reason.

And didnt crash at any other time / or with any other program.

But, I reformatted both this, and the other PC about 3-4 weeks ago now (when I installed SP3), and it hasnt crashed since.

666945 2008-05-07 22:21:00 yeah - the problem is its crashing on win32k.sys while Vista is installing, so it hasn't even had a chance to load windows fully.

I suspect that when Vista is loading the default drivers, its finding something it doesn't like and causes the error.

Maybe - and I'm only guessing, SP1 might have fixed that problem with the Nvidia drivers.

Not much help I know if you don't have SP1 slipstreamed into a Vista DVD.

One way to find out for sure is to install a different Graphic Card that is known to work on Vista. EG: on a workshop PC I have a Very old FX5200 - no problems what so ever.

Get Vista to load, then install SP1, then install the original card.

666946 2008-05-08 00:50:00 Just a thought

I've seen Vista do some pretty random stuff with a lot of ram installed, a few times with my machines that have 4gb+ installed it freaks out during the install in a similar fashion. I see that you dont have that much but its possible.

As a last resort, try only having 1gb or 1 Module in the machine while you install.
