383219 2005-09-01 18:56:00 Sorry sam, I'd rather my iMate JAM than the harrier.

Got me a 512MB SD-Card for it, and shortly will have an 802.11b Wireless extension also. Now that Ive got Internet for it via GPRS, it has the potential to be an office anywhere I need it to be!

Is the imate jam 3G?

Telecom vs Vodafoney (http://www.drury.net.nz/)

"Vodafone versus Telecom 3G speeds 31/08/2005 2:30:58 p.m.

A couple of Vodafone guys (probably on their last day of employment) challenged the Telecom data guys to a speed test at TechEd - at the Telecom stand (what were they thinking!).

Ping test

network/lowest/average

* Telecom / 91 / 133
* Vodafone / 211 / 224

Wake up from dormant

* Telecom 600 ms
* Vodafone 4500 ms

"We'll let you have that one as well""

383220 2005-09-01 19:07:00 Harrier.Fat and ugly!!Sorry..Nobody would EVER buy it in hk.Hk doesn't even have cdma network either..

You're probably right it is fat, ugly? well that is in the eye of the beholder. I still love her though. I tried out the Nokia 6680 as I was keen on 2 3G phones for me and my wife who is Deaf. Thought video calling would be excellent as texting gets sooooooo misunderstood sometimes. Went to a store to try. Fortunately 2 staff had them (1 nokia, cant remember other brand) and the video calling was crap. The TV ads are full of ****. There is no way they produce even half the quality that they depict on TV.

Early days yet.....will have to wait.

383221 2005-09-01 19:12:00 Oh yeah, I fit 6 movies and a few music vidz + songs on my 512MB Card ;)

What format? I had to search everywhere to find a .3gp programme. Compresses 700MB fiile to approx 120MB. Quality is great but I can rip a dvd to that format which doubles end size but the quality is excellent. I have never actually watched a movie in entirety (too small for my old eyes) but my friend was impressed.

383222 2005-09-01 21:45:00 I wont say the movie names (Family movies of course), but I just used Windows Media Encoder. Output size was approx 75 - 80MB per movie :) 320x240 res (roughly, the height mighta been slightly less) but yeah, its good enough to watch. Good for long car trips etc to give to kids :) Chilling_Silence (9)

I heard something not long ago about 4G. Speeds touted at 100Mbps download and 20Mbps up. The rate technology is moving that wont be too far away and I think at that speed video calling would work alot better....hopefully.
To be honest I didnt get a lot of time to play with the phones and maybe under better conditions video calling would be a lot smoother. At the moment using Sign Language via 3G is not going to be the answer but I wait in anticipation.
