2005-08-22 21:53:00 | The main problem here as I see it (if you go public or seek external mediation or resolution) is that you want some refund for what may have been the sharing of copyright material? Very little of what is "available" via P2P programs is legit. Sure some is, but thats a lot of data you are talking about here. If the only files shared (that caused this data charge use) were "public domain" such as Linux distros etc, then its worth a try. But if any of it was copyrighted MP3 or Video/Movie files or programs, you would be opening yourself up to even greater possibilities of expense ... that would make $4k look like a bargain.

2005-08-22 22:23:00 | Hogswash. They send it out when you sign up for an account with them, standard operating procedure. I mean seriously ISP services are basically there for the use of e-mail and internet, who'd have thought they wouldn't provide an address.Hogswash?????? Hogwash indeed! Here's what's on the bit of paper when i got my cable modem back on late last year. Paradise.net 0800 299 300 TelstaClear Broadband Cable Modem Settings Account xxxxx (customer number) Name xxxx (first name of account holder) IP Address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.1 or (scribbled out) DNS 1 203.96.152.4 DNS 2 203.96.152.12 There's also a barcode thingy. NO info on the email address settings or for that matter the homepage space settings, or the newserver settings, or anything else. I had to moan like a banchee to get my email address and homepage space working. "Help" staff were often bloody difficult to work with and unco-operative. When i found one who thought that there was more to her job than answering the phone and ticking a few boxes, i got my old homepage space reinabled (using my old user name - odd) and i lost count of the calls i made before they gave me a user name and password for email and checking my bandwidth usage on the paradise site. I will credit them once sending me an E telling me i had used 80% of my bandwidth allocation.

2005-08-22 23:07:00 | When and how did you get that peice of paper? When applied for the service? or when they come to install? or come from the letter they send you? The piece of paper with "everything i need to know" (except the bits they left out) was given to me by the tech who came round to install the cable TV box, Cable modem, make sure the phone works, and with out request connect my second phone line up to the same pair as the first one (Till i went out and asked them what they were doing given the second one had all but 2 of the fittings ripped off the walls by the squatters who had been through my house and broken allmost everything, allthough this was an improvement on the techs taking apart telecoms point of entry and starting to divert those wires untill i told the "tech" that the cat 5 cable going to the grey telstra box on the other side of the house might just be the one that went to my phone jacks) There was no letter sent to me, but the account is not in my name, so that might explain this. Only the bills come to me.

2005-08-22 23:12:00 | Try the Fair Go television program. They may not help you but it will become one of those articles on things not to do. At the end of the day however why should telstra carry you for something that was an act of your own stupidity? If you left your heater running 24 hours a day and ran up a huge bill, would you expect your power company to ignore the usage? Take it as a lesson in life. I remembered there was this period I had with vodafone.Im on account with vodafone you see and because of the lack of money I had.I chose a data plan only and asked them to disconect any calling plan I have. They did that for me but even though they disconnected the calling plan I was able to make a call but it was $60 per minute. What's worse was that I accidentally forgotten the fact that i wasnt on a calling plan.I made a call to my friend with a telecom mobile.Spoke for like 6 minutes and was bill something like $386NZ.I quickily ran vodafone after the 6 min talk.I asked them kindly if they would credit say half of the amount and they did but they said not to do it again otherwise you'll pay for what you've done *Acciddentally* I suggest keep talking to telstra clear

I signed the service one and half year ago, they installed cable modem at 15.03.04. I still kept the installation notification postcard. |
