But really, there are exception, some things should be binned well before they get to the keyboard, and this one fits perfectly into that category . CB, I'm very surprised that you, of all people, to have introduced this topic to the forum . As pointed out earlier, you have that much bother placing your threads in the right half you'd be a non event in a game of wall tennis . |

| 382780 | 2005-08-22 22:01:00 | Now here's an idea to stir the pot up . . . . . . . . . . . . :D Rather than multiple forums/categories how about icons?????? At the moment we can draw attention to posts, label them with psychotic grins and stuff, which is all good fun, but does little to say what they are about . Enter icon "tux" (who is GPL IIRC) "apple" "M$" and "?" There we go . . . Now we can be divided into all our little boxes and be easily conquered :p |

If you want to look at silly icons and funny pictures there's plenty of sites you can gaze at all day . |

No no, i'm not suggesting a new space for icons, rather just some icons that have more meaning about thread content than the current ones optionally used to go with a threads title, which are far more like emoticons . Refer "psychotic grin icon" :D by the title of my reply . If i was asking how to make a change to my machine that i was stumped on, and i could use "tux" instead, then maybe that would give those who want division the guide they need to either ignore my post, or go directly to it . Instead of reflecting my personality, the icon would reflect the nature of my question . "No icon" would be an important option to keep, both for the benefit of those who don't want to use icons with thread/post titles, and for the occations where a question is not OS specific . I'm suggesting that "tux" "apple" "M$" etc might be more useful than "bit of paper" "arrow" "bright idea" (i wish that one was seen more) "warning triangle" "?" etc etc . I'm sure we could add or replace 3 of the thread title icons, increase description clarity for those that wish this, and not increase the fruit salad on the page, or resort to dividing the forum up into lots of silly little ones . :yuck: |

| 382784 | 2005-08-23 03:04:00 | I cant see why, I never even notice the thread icons, and as the thread starter himself hasn't seemed to notice very few questions go unanswered or unresolved....so the point of all the extra work would be? Now,Lets get back to user avators..... |

I also note that every now and then some posts have to get bumped before they get noticed. What i'm suggesting is a minamal work way of acheiving spotability, without making any changes that "fix" what isn't yet broken. I fully support the simplicity of this site, but see a token amount of fine tuning as a good thing. |
