| 667086 | 2008-05-10 09:14:00 | I find it depressingly interesting hearing you all complain about your current ihug/Vodafone speeds... in the 'good old days' I used to be able to download content at around 350-400kbs... I thought that was fast! Now, Vodafone have kindly 'upgraded' my account, with little warning and, ironically, it now costs an extra 5c/month. All that was meant to change was my data allowance was no longer subject to on-peak/off-peak times. Problem was I saw the word 'unleashed' hidden somewhere in their blurb... when will ISPs learn that when they 'unleash' internet in runs away?? I don't just have to buffer Youtube videos, I've gotta wait 10 mins for a 4 min video!! Most speed tests 'conveniently' don't work, but consumer.org.nz hits me with this: "Download Speed: 143 kbps (17.9 KB/sec transfer rate)". I refuse to blame geography or network conditions because it exactly coincides with my 'upgrade'....... | MikeyJayDub (13712) | ||
| 667087 | 2008-05-10 22:55:00 | Same issues here.. For about a week I have been getting around 100-250kbps on consumer.org speed test.. nzdsl speed test refuses to load even after 10 minutes of waiting. Sometime my connection would appear to speed up as speed test would show around 1mbps but when I load webpages they either take about 30mins or just quit after it has received the name of the page and I just have a blank screen forcing me to refresh and wait another 10mins just to reveive the name of the page and a blank screen. It is taking me around 10 minutes to load google even though my connection speed is showing around 1mbps. A few weeks ago I was hitting 4.5mbps and everything was fine. I have reset my router settings, changed to an old dlink router - nothing has resolved this. Spent 1 hour on the phone to ihug last night but didnt get to speak to a person. |

| 667088 | 2008-05-10 23:25:00 | When I rang my connection through Speedtest.net, I got only 594kbps download on a wireless connection, and 620kbps on a cabled connection. Come on Ihug, what's the big idea? I'm paying $50 a month for a service which is complete rubbish, my connections have never been this low before. Yes, I realise it is "peak time", but 594k compared to a theoretical 7.6mb... that's just a BIT of a difference! Does anyone else find their speed lagging on Ihug lately? I feel your pain, i moved to the fair use policy ($60 month) and im getting the same as you.... :crying:mad: |

| 667089 | 2008-05-10 23:46:00 | I see they have changed all their plans, $70 for 1 GB seems a bit much. www.vodafone.co.nz The slow speeds on the old plans may be just their way of trying to encourage everyone to change to the new ones. |

| 667090 | 2008-05-11 04:45:00 | Hello there everyone! I am having the same problem as all of you have. For some time I was thinking they have put filters on the rapidshare.com domain. But I was wrong. Downloading a demo for LifeJournal is at 10.7kb/ses. Tried both Firefox and IE7. Using Windows Vista. Rang Vod.Ihug. talked to the guy only to discover that they acknowledge the problem and are trying to do something about it. He claimed that it was for 4 days back from now[the day of post], but the website says it started on the 3rd of May. In protection of ihug, would say that a lot of ISP's around the world are having the same problem. Try visiting google.com and typing rapidshare slow downloading as a search string, to get a clue about the scope of the matter. It immediately leads you to the newests posts with tons of people complaining about their ISP's having problems. Some of them are ADSL2+ in Australia. I'm not a pro in Net things, so the professional in IT please leave a comment on this question: Could this be because of global internet routing problem, like ISP's have chosen the cheapest gateways possible and now it is overloaded? |

| 667091 | 2008-05-11 06:50:00 | Agreed totally with all the comments re the Vodofone/ihug issues re the download speeds. The Connections speeds have declined by a factor of 50% over that last week and frankly the problem in my opinion is that the poor Customer Vodofone service will, I imagine, compound the internet service. Having been an ihug customer and having 3 accounts, I ams eriously looking at changing my ISP. Can anyone suggest an alternative that offers service in support and effective Broadband? PS....tried calling Customer Support at 5.20pm and its now nearly 6pm..and am still on hold...and its a SUNDAY.... |

Actually I did notice that too - somebody please tell me I'm missing a piece to this puzzle, but 70 bucks for ONE measly GB?? I found this by clicking the 'upgrade your plan' link... how is going from 20GB to 1GB an upgrade? I don't think a gig has cost that much for 5 years! ...oh, but it's okay because if you hit your allowance you can double your allowance for 5 bucks... 2GB - woohoo! What am I missing here?? |

Thats for phone AND broadband with 1 gig data.... Tho the speeds have been crap for a lot longer than their admission of : Whats the problem? Some ihug broadband customers may be experiencing poor broadband speeds at the moment. When did the problem start? The 3rd of May. |
