I see, we already have a precedent. :waughh:

Hadn't thought of that. :D

383552 2005-08-25 04:19:00 Well, if it isn’t a joke it’s a b.…y outrage.

Regardless of whether this dear old thing actually qualifies, it means that this amount of money is being earmarked for such procedures whilst kids die, heart patients die, cancer sufferers die and joint replacement patients wait a suffer.

Alarmingly, with an election pending, not one opposition party has come out swinging on this matter.

I suppose, having survived the operation, this weirdo will qualify for a $50,000 allowance to study Hip-Hop. Grrrrrrrr! :angry

Don Brash took a hit at it a couple of weeks back when the allegations first surfaced. Nobody seemed to pay attention, or care.

383553 2005-08-25 04:53:00 Hmmm.. 73 years old, and a tax payer for most of it. Anyone care to guesstimate how many of this persons hard earned dollars have been taxed over the years? Are they not as entitled to healthcare as the rest of us?

Some people get heart surgery when they need it, some people have the right to relieve themselves of a lifetime of misery and depression by having surgery to correct what to them is something debilitating. It's not purely cosmetic, despite what some of you seem to think.

That's just so wrong, I don't know where to begin.

"Healthcare"? That's stretching it.

It's a matter of (allegedly) scarce resources & priorities.

Fix a life-threatening heart condition or someone "just not feeling right as a man" ? Hmmmmm....

Next thing you know, my taxes will be used to finance stomach stapling operations.
No, that's being ridiculous...

383555 2005-08-25 05:21:00 Me thinks it would be cheaper to box him around the ears, grab him by the scruff of his shirt (or blouse) and tell him to start being a man. Metla (12)
383556 2005-08-25 05:30:00 How much did we provide for taxis for a fat politician every year, how many billion did we pay to bail out the BNZ, how much went on . . . ?

This is a small amount really . It just seems to raise "moral" outrage .

Oh, absolutely . There are many more examples of waste (ex-MPs getting free domestic air travel for life springs to mind) all relatively small amounts in the grand scheme of things, but try telling that to people on hospital waiting lists, underpaid teachers, under-resourced police (taxi, anyone?) , underpaid health workers, etc .

It may only be a few thousand or so here & there, but every bit of money wasted could be used to improve the well-being of the people who actualy pay out this money .

(If I ruled the world . . . etc)

383558 2005-08-25 09:25:00 If I recall correctly, the health minister said sex change operations using public funds were capped at three per year.
That's why there's a selection process.
