| 382628 | 2005-08-21 01:41:00 | What with all the telecom bashing... if there was an comapny who offered a connection with 512KBs up and down with NO data cap of any sort. low ping times, no trafic shaping, fixed IP. regardless of ISP or ADSL Vs Cable or any other issue of how it is done or by who.... how much would you be willing to pay?? what is a fair price?? lets not turn this in to a telecom bashing thread there is another thread for that. |

| 382631 | 2005-08-21 04:33:00 | I run DSL via Verizon . net with the whole package of unlimited (ULD) free long distance telephone (US, Guam, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, Philippine Islands, Alaska, The UK . , and Puerto Rico), caller id, call waiting, 3-way calling, call blocking, free information, local long-distance free (LLD), and both Freedom Package and Encore . Plus I get free calling cards for when I am away from a home phone for the same rates . The whole phone package costs $29 . 95 US/mo, and I get my Unlimited DSL with 3955 down/ 2290 up, for another $19 . 95 US/mo . I did find a special rate, but it is or was available to everybody here in California, and will stay at the same rate until cancelled by me . I didn't check with the exchange rate for NZ to US dollars, but I think they are pretty close . |

| 382633 | 2005-08-21 05:13:00 | It's just the size of the system that lets us get these specs and prices . We also have the Federal Govt on the tails of the communications giants . . we had the best system a bunch of years ago . . . and it was a monopoly . Since the monopoly was busted up, there has been a lot of competition . . with a lot of Federal pushing for sure . But the good thing is that it is basically all weeded out now, and we get to take advantage of the prices that are set by Big Govt . . . I am truly sorry that NZ is so small . . it has it's good . . . er, make that VERY GOOD points . . . but the size thing is important to get the competition going good too . I am envious of your little section of the world . . . it has so much going for it . . and let's not forget that the true pioneer spirit still lives there . We seem to have lost that spirit here in the US, sorry to say . |

| 382636 | 2005-08-24 10:59:00 | Is this price supposed to be purely for the internet component or does it include the phone line rental? That $40 or so makes quite a difference, after all.. |
