668210 2008-05-11 00:12:00 Internet explorer starts up all by itself, opening pages at classic spam sites - casino, green card lottery, adult friend finder. I use Opera, hardly ever IE. The problem's about a week old, and happens around four times an hour. Thanks, Bruce bruce666 (8727)

668212 2008-05-11 00:58:00 The computer will be full of spyware - as well as the suggestions from speedy, download from my sig, Ccleaner ( clean up program) Spyware Doctor, Spybot S&D, Malware Bytes, and Super Antispyware (http://www.superantispyware.com/). No one Antispyware gets every thing, you need a combination.

Install, update and run all programs, this will remove most if not all of the bugs.

668213 2008-05-11 05:02:00 The best thing you can possibly do, after cleaning up the spyware, is never use IE again except to download the Firefox browser - http://mozilla . com . Firefox is free, safer, and better in every possible way . IE is the world's worst browser and using it is the best way to bring your system to its knees . You won't regret making the change .

Also, once you get used to Firefox and when you eventually get sick of other rubbish that's inherent to Microsoft Windows, you can easily migrate everything to a real computing system like Linux (try http://ubuntu . com for a free download - or they'll even post you a CD no charge!), or, if you're that way inclined, Mac OS X .

Cheers,

Dave

668214 2008-05-11 05:38:00 Here we go again - another Linux lover that thinks its the only OS to use. wainuitech (129)
668215 2008-05-11 05:42:00 Actually the last and previous versions of FF have been pretty crappy

They maybe secure, but theyve still got probs. Like screwing some sites up.

And not working properly.

In the end I wiped it and went back to Opera.

Well t doesnt look like Bruce is bothered anyway, he hasnt replied since

668217 2008-05-11 07:20:00 I definately pefer opera to FF or IE, its just that I like IE mouse gestures better than opera :P SPARTAN 860 (2618)
668218 2008-05-24 22:10:00 Yeah, I'm a Linux lover, wainuitech . Is there anything wrong with that? I've never had to scan my computer for trojans or spyware . . . What's to love about Windows (I guess you could be called a Windows lover?) .

Spartan 860, I also use Opera alongside Firefox - it's a great browser, too . Both are way ahead of MS's low-grade offerings . As a commercial web developer, I've formed a deep hatred for MS browsers which don't adhere to standards and are a thorn in the side of all web developers worldwide who want to support web standards . As such, I recommend to all users that they at least try Firefox . Firefox 3 (which I have been using for months in beta) is an outstanding browser . So is Opera - both are running on my machine at the moment .

In my business, my colleagues and I also support dozens of businesses who primarily use MS Windows on the desktop . Most of our customers' employees now use Firefox . . . and we haven't installed it for them . As soon as one person at a company starts using it and does stuff like installing a few key add-ons, the rest do, too . It's simply better than IE .

Cheers,

Dave

668219 2008-05-25 04:29:00 1) Poster is asking for help on IE, yet you dived into the topic of OS in response. A good analogy would be that I am having issue with my Toyota car and you tell me to get a car made in Europe because Japan sucks.

2) It is up to the user what browser they want to use. Despite all the good things associated with Firefox, many are still sticking with Internet Explorer merely because of the simple reason that "it is found on every Windows computer, and therefore I would know how to use it". Don't recommend me a new car when I need to get the tyre of my Toyota fixed.
