2008-05-10 07:10:00 | HI . . while I use the likes of Photoshop & ACDSee for manipulating image content from my digicams, but I prefer to use the normally faster-opening MS Photo Editor for simple file management of thumbnail images . . . with previous cameras this has always been glitch free (still is), but with my new snapper (Niko d300) I get an error message "Cant Open, Filesize too large", even with the cam set to produce jpg's under 2mb . Much larger files from my previous camera/s still open fine . . . a couple of camera forums where I have lodged the question all seem to think it is something buggy about MS P/E (SP2 under XP Pro), rather than something the camera is writing into the file . Any suggestions please? BrooC ;-)) | BrooC (5937) | |

2008-05-10 09:09:00 | Eh? Well I answered the question but as the poster is already using perfectly suitable software to do the job I don't see what their problem is. Also there have been a number of similar style posts to this in the last few days that have qualified as SPAM.

2008-05-10 09:50:00 | What product is he plugging to qualify as Spam? On thinking about it, it does appear to be a genuine question which is why I did actually answer it in my first post. The poster mentions using 3 photo editors (no that that is illegal or anything ;) )

2008-05-11 02:25:00 | . . . mebbe if V'stix would read ALL my question instead of obsessing about 'spam' (shheeesh, as if) we might get nearer to an answer to MY problem! But, just to clarify/re-iterate, I dont want to have to wait for P'Shop or some other large 'hammer' app set as default viewer to load/open just so's I can shuffle images around or do some simple re-naming, filing, etc etc . . . its a matter of personal PREFERENCE, rather than using hi-tech just becoz ya can . . . & I'm unable to see how this problem was 'answered' in V'stix first post . . . I need an answer to a specific issue, NOT flip-sarcasm thankyou! Can anybody else offer a real answer PLEASE? Regards, BrooC ;-)) | BrooC (5937) | |
2008-05-11 02:36:00 | The best suggestion I can give you is to try Picasa 2 , A free application provided by Google. Its very good in all regards. picasa.google.com Picasa is software that makes it easy and fun to view, organise, edit and share the digital photos on your PC. Picasa will not delete your pictures or put them online without your permission. The download itself contains only the Picasa 2 software. Picasa will not uninstall other programs or add any non-Picasa programs or files to your computer.

2008-05-11 02:47:00 | Hi Metla, thanks for that (gosh, but I hope it wasnt . . . gasp . . . 'sp*m' . . ;-)) . . . . I'll give it a go for sure if I cant resolve the MS P/E prob . . . . it seems such an odd thing that P/E will open larger files from other cameras, & it was even happy to handle larger files from my previous Nikon d200, so the prob likely isnt brand specific to the camera . . . mebbe I should just try the simplest fix first & un-install then reload the P/E . . . thanks for the advise . | 667950 | 2008-05-11 02:52:00 | My gut feeling is that the camera is formatting the photo's in such a way that your preferred app can't read em properly and is throwing up an error, I don't have any experience with MS Photo-editor though so its just a guess, MS programs have a habit of throwing up error messages that are unrelated to the actual issue. I would suggest that the camera is formatting them to standard, and that MS aren't happy with it,, They like to do that, adopt a standard and then change it..... And sorry about V'stix, He struggles with the concept of spam.
