667700 2008-05-09 10:01:00 Okay, so my sister wants me to downgrade her laptop from Vista 32Bit Business to Windows XP Pro. I know this is possible, and how to do so, the thing I'm pondering about is the legality of downloading XP Pro. None of my friends have Windows XP Pro, so I can't borrow their disc.

All I need the disc for is to install XP Pro, not to crack it, but to use the Vista Business product-key to activate it. (Over the phone activation)

Thanks.

667701 2008-05-09 10:14:00 Well its still illegal to download it from the net then install it.

And asking here is a no-no.

Only other option is to buy it

You cant use a Vista key for XP Pro, theyre totally different, and it wouldnt work

667703 2008-05-09 12:12:00 be careful here

many newer laptops that ship with vista pre-installed contain hardware devices that do not have drivers for windows XP. you would certainly not be popular if you install XP and many of the laptops devices are rendered inoperable by no driver support.

Have a read up first imo.

MSDNAA is not for all uni students only those that have subscribed, by the university.

It ain't in M$ interest to have people going back to XP even though they still allow OEM vendors to ship XP.

In fact call the laptop manufacturer.
