667464 2008-05-09 00:19:00 Hi,

I do my "housework" at least once a week and decided I would put the chores on automatic, start times etc etc

After selecting the program I set up the days and times O K, but when I click "finish" I get My computer name etc and a password is required - I enter my commonly used password ,or anything that I may have used- "access denied" comes up.

What am I doing wrong?
I use XP Pro and 3.06 cpu >80 gb h/d etc

667465 2008-05-09 01:58:00 Ok I'm not sure 100% what your doing
Is this the same as the inbuilt Scheduled Tasks,

but I'll ask the obvious,

What level of User are you (Standard, Guest, Administrator)

Have you tried entering the admin user password if you have one

667466 2008-05-09 02:38:00 I have the same problem as effieC. I have tried all sorts of user names and passwords but still get 'Access denied'. I have admin rights on this machine. Scheduled Tasks is the only service I have a problem with. :badpc: Richard (739)
667467 2008-05-09 03:46:00 Hi Nigel & Richard,

Thank you ! I am exactly the same as Richard, --

Nigel, the program is built into the pooter, and when one loads up the start time etc- everything goes in perfectly- click "apply" at the end and up comes error 0x800770005- access denied.
The settings in the admin window are several and I have tried every one- same result.

I wondered if a recent trip to the repair shop to get a new powerpack installed and the harddrive replaced/ repaired, woiuld be the cause---indignant answer was" why should I go near that anyway? "--meant in fun no doubt, but he is mystified

And as to passwords - because of the fact I am the only one using this machine- I have a standard password --for all non problematic programs which means unless there is a danger - from where I don't know, I just stay the same old same old
:sleep

667468 2008-05-09 23:30:00 Bump. Any ideas out there? Richard (739)
667469 2008-05-10 00:03:00 Hi Effie

Ok have just tried it on my machine to refresh the grey matter.

It worked fine for me so I don't know whats happening your end

the user name that came up was

Nigels-Comp\nigel
(my computer name and my user name in the above format)
And the password to enter was the login password for that user

And googling the error message you gave only gave one result (apart from this one), and the problem was solved however the person didn't bother to mention how

667470 2008-05-10 02:29:00 Hi all,

I did a Google with the error number and it came up with what,in short, I was already doing, although when I tried to follow the directions including windows "run" and it says it cannot find the program--- "run Gpedit.misc--check you have spelled it correctly" etc etc,

In my endeavours to enter the correct password and getting "error 0x80070005," I remembered I had done and printed a Belarc Advisor program dated last December- and there was my user name ( this is a very usuable program which I have since deleted.

The password was exactly that which I had been using all along, so my ancient brain was telling the truth

A comment was made that an installation of sp2 had in fact effected the program in some computers " wait for a hotpatch in sp3 "-- but I have been using SP2 for much longer than last December, which the site suggested might be the cause

that hot patch may be auto installed next Tuesday when the usual auto update will work

This is about all I can do unless someone else has any ideas

667472 2008-05-10 06:42:00 Have you seen this post (forums.pcworld.co.nz)

sorry I'd been searching on the error number you gave in your post, but I think you may have hd an extra digit in it

As I have never had issues with the task schedular you'll probably need to wait for someone more knowledgeble to come along

667473 2008-05-10 21:35:00 Hi Nigel,

No, I have just rechecked and that same 080070005 on a Google brings up the same problem I am asking about-------but ! it says that whoever asked the problem never called back so they do not know if it has been fixed

As you can see in my last postscript,I downloaded and ran Belarc Adviser and there was my,as I expected, password, matching a similar Belarc print out from last December

There are more than 10 pages with the question,so it does not appear a rarity.

Goodness know where I turn to next-any help will be greatly appreciated
