667411 2008-05-08 22:24:00 Hi all,

I'm looking for ISP's that will provide wireless internet, because I won't have a telephone line set up (Don't wanna pay Telecom for a line I'll never use to phone as we would only use it for the internet) .

We mostly just surf the internet, but occaisonally use the webcam so a reasonable upload speed is needed, plus a few gigs (2gb? 3gb?) for monthly total of download .

I amstill 100% about our max spending limit for this, but rough guess is $50-$60 a month . But the more cheaper, the better! :D

However, if there are any ISP's out there that uses phone lines, which don't belong to telecom (i . e . I don't have to pay telecom anything), then I will consider that too .

thanks,
caffy

667413 2008-05-08 23:10:00 For the price your looking, Telecom or Vodafone 3G would be the better way to go, assuming you get decent reception where you are and don't need more than 1-2GB of data per month.

Telecom seems to be better than Vodafone for data cards, software's better, cards/dongles don't seem break so easily.

We sell the Vodafone stuff...so I am not biased either way, recommending Telecom.

You will get roped into contracts with both.

Woosh wireless is also decent option, assuming you can get it, but that has it's issues too.

Heres Telecom's (www.telecom.co.nz) coverage maps.

And Vodafone's (www.vodafone.co.nz).

667414 2008-05-08 23:14:00 In the end most of the money ends up in telecom anyway . Buy a satelite, shouldn't cost you much more than a few million, and then lease bandwidth from an international provider .

You'd have effectively unlimited bandwidth, and probably in the Gb/s for download rates .

That way Ms Gatting doesn't get any of your hard earned cash .

667415 2008-05-08 23:34:00 Have a look at Compass.

You will need to have line of site to one of their transmission towers say within 15kms. Any obstruction such as trees will rule it out, you must be able to see the tower.

WxC offer a wireless connection called Extencity, but at $99 for entry level is dearer than what you want, Caffy.

Does anyone know where the Waikamete Reservior is in Henderson? Couldn't find it on googlemaps

Have a look here: www.nzconnection.net
At the Naked DSL providers.

Also if you’re still interested in Wireless have a look here: www.nzconnection.net

Hope this helps :)

Wouldn't have a clue! I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I can see the road name but not sure where the atenna or dish or whatever is
