385208 2005-09-01 08:50:00 Hello

I read an article on the herald.co.nz website regarding Sky releasing their DVR sometime in the next week. I know they are going to use Pace Micro units and they will probably be the same or similar to the Foxtel IQ. Has anyone heard exactly when they will release them, pricing, etc? I have been looking forward to this for a very long time!! :)

Thanks

385209 2005-09-01 20:45:00 They haven't announced pricing yet. The Herald article did give the Aussies pricing though and said its likely to be similar.
And seriously rip-off too! And you don't even get to own it!

385210 2005-09-02 05:26:00 Totally agree on the price/no ownership thing, but I guess it will be supported regardless of warranty. So in a couple of years time when it blows up, sky should replace it at no cost too you. Sounds like a good theory anyway. Webbnzl (8810)

385212 2005-09-06 05:45:00 At $600 I may give it a mis for a while..

I wonder if their new program guide for this PVR supports the FTA channels that they carry??

385213 2005-09-06 05:50:00 Personally, I think the programme guide is over-rated. I'd prefer a HDD-based DVD recorder any day... Lizard (2409)
385214 2005-09-06 10:25:00 I guess the best part of it is you can finally watch one channel and record another, its all integrated with the EPG, and its all crystal clear (the main reason I got sky/poor reception) I could buy a HDD/DVD recorder but I still can't record while watching another. Its a pity I'll have to wait till december. Webbnzl (8810)

I guess it has benefit for current Sky subscribers (i forgot you can't watch/record different channels). Personally, every time I consider the value of Sky it falls far short of my expectations. I don't see this ramping up demands for Sky.

385216 2005-09-06 22:02:00 Hi,
I heard someone on the radio yesterday talking about My Sky. Cost is $599. $100 off that for current sky subscribers & you have the choice to keep the current skybox.

Pauline.

It was written up in the ChCh Fairfax rag this am. I think that if you go for the offer you have mentioned Pauline, it means that you can put your current skybox on another TV in your house, and then you pay an extra $25 per month for the privilege. Something like that.

The other issue mentioned in the rag was that you will not be able to shuttle through the ads... Apparently this is available overseas, but Sky is not introducing it here. I wonder why???? Duh!
