1357447 2005-08-30 10:46:00 My grandfather is looking at buying a digital camera, but his hands are too shakey to use most cameras. He tried and loved a camera that was designed to take good photos even with all the shaking, but it was around $600. Does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives? His budget is around $300, or $400 if I can get all the cousins to chip in. Greven (91)
1357448 2005-08-30 11:15:00 whichever model - make sure it's got anti-shake or image stabilser or similar, probably need big buttons as well. there's just too many models to even recommend tho. quarry (252)

1357450 2005-08-30 11:57:00 Look at the Panasonic O.I.S image stabiliser but these are the smaller cams thou .. maybe not too well with ergonomics. There are bigger cams but the price will be higher thou :horrified

Maybe he can consider a monopod? One legged tripod.
Given the shakiness, he could rule out night photog out, in daylight try to up the ISO so the speed is more quicker...

Tripod another option but can be awkward depending on subjecti like pple or area (crowds) but for scenic, macro, self interest photog its v good but you got to carry the dan thing. A remote is not bad if it supports one.

1357451 2005-08-30 13:39:00 As nomad and everyone else has said, use a mono pod or tri pod but if this is to much of a hassle for him set the camera to use a fast shutter speed .
Most cameras usually have a setting for Kids & Pets or something along those lines that uses a fast shutter speed .

If its from a not so well known brand then make sure he tries it out in the shop first and takes a few pictures to check out the quality of the pictures . Theres some pretty cheap and nasty cameras out there .

Also dont settle for a camera under 3megapixels .

If you can find one in your price range then buy a Canon camera . They take amazing pictures .
Have a look here at the quality of this photo i took of some cows up the road :D . . . . . .
