| 1357272 | 2005-08-31 05:01:00 | Linux = great - if you know how to use it and dont like decent games... Windows = best - if your a gamer and spend half a day turning off all the BS, setting up security software and getting all the updates :) |

| 1357274 | 2005-08-31 05:56:00 | Sorry dude, but welcome to 2005, where if the highly technical skills of click and point are well understood, you too can use Linux Some versions of linux like Xandros are really easy to use and on the same level of XP as far as point and click simplicity go at the basic user level but once you start delving in to config files things get complicated... I agree it's better than its ever been but its definately not as easy as XP or any version of Windows for that matter - maybe it's just adjusting to a different way of doing things that's the challenge? :waughh: |

| 1357275 | 2005-08-31 05:58:00 | 5 reasons? maybe its because it has 5 letters? 1 = L 2 = I 3 = N 4 = U 5 = X One wonders what the letters could possibly stand or conjure up some ideas to match up ? Lovely Intelligent Needs Understanding & Xcitement maybe? LOL beetle |

And even most non-average computer owners . . . . . . which is THE MARKET . Not that I care either way, I have no shares in MS or any of the hippie communites behind Linux . . . Muhahahaha . |

The amount of f**king around with it to get it working the way you want it and get the programs you want on it to work properly just . . . - the novelty wears off after a couple of months . :groan: Maybe one day when it has DirectX or the future equivalent :) |

| 1357280 | 2005-08-31 06:21:00 | I've used a number of them, And while I have been impressed by most they simply can't do what I require of a computer. The security aside (I have no security issues with my systems) they are just mutiple packages of the same software.I reject the notion of emulation software which only leaves some second rate apps, poor hardware suport, ugly themes and mutiple nuts and bolts that I'm not in the slighest bit interested in. Driver implementation was poor in W98,Linux makes it look like a stroke of genius, layered in user freindliness and goodwill. God help the poor user who has to replace his modem at some stage down the road, sure no problem for a linux head, they have put in the effort already, and may well want to wade through the 34 cryptic steps to get it working. Most just want a one step process to install the driver and be away laughing. XP has ridden out its darkest days, and Linux has failed completely and utterly to capitilise on the perfect opputunity,no doubt due to the users and developrs attitude as to what Linux should be/is. Bit of a pity, The future for Linux doesn't look as bright as it did a year ago. |

I'm quite aware of OpenGL - but you can probably count on one hand games that fully support it these days... I mean - come on - what do we have Unreals, Quakes, RTCW, Doom3 (anything from id)... |
