667540 2008-05-12 09:31:00 Try downloading IE8 Beta 1 and see if that makes a difference:

667542 2008-05-12 22:23:00 If that doesnt work you may have to reformat, if that svchost error keep on coming up.

And remember to install SP1, or 2 after it

667543 2008-05-13 02:23:00 No darnit didn't install. Seems like anything to do with IE brings up that error.
Speedy, rather than formatting, could I just repair/re-install Win XP using the Win CD?
Rather not go through all the rigmarole of a reformat, reinstalling programmes, etc etc

667544 2008-05-13 02:34:00 You could try. If that doesnt work, you may have to do a clean install.

Might be better if you slipstream IE 7 (and SP3) if you want to use both.

Thats if your system isnt an AMD, or a system that isnt affected by SP3.

667545 2008-05-13 02:53:00 How do I slipstream IE 7 and Sp3? Do you mean download them from MS update website? Tried that and it hung, although did not affect the PC KiwiPrius (11514)
667546 2008-05-13 02:53:00 Sorry, meant to add that I do have an AMD system. KiwiPrius (11514)
667547 2008-05-13 03:00:00 Hmm it may or may not crash/reboot then, with your system

If you install SP3.

You'll need something Nlite (http://www.nliteos.com/) to slipstream SP3 and IE 7.

But you'll have to install .Net framework 2 before it'll install / work

And you'll need SP3 / the original XP cd, and a cd burner / blank cd's, as this program (once you add whatever) creates an ISO.

Then you'll need a program that can burn ISO's to cd.

It'll create a new cd (with XP, IE 7, and SP3 if you decide to add it).

Altho, since youve got XP Pro, if you were near Auckland, I could burn the ISO I created with SP3 and IE 7.

And you could probably use your XP key to install it

667548 2008-05-13 03:11:00 Holy smoke! Think I'll just upgrade to a new C2D machine. This one is about 5 years old now anyway... KiwiPrius (11514)
