2008-05-09 03:59:00 | Same here that update appeared in the shield on the taskbar, soon after I installed / SS SP3 on these. (It didnt crash these tho). It wouldnt install either (I had previously downloaded that file, the same error you posted). So, the next time the update appeared, I unticked it, then closed the window. It hasnt come back sinceThe update also appeared in the shield on my PC. I hit download and then realised that I wasn't connected to the Internet which I quickly did. The download window disappeared but I don't think I got the download. How can I check please?.

2008-05-09 06:29:00 | I have discovered that the SP3 update turned on Windows Firewall without asking (even though I have another firewall running), and it also changed Automatic Updates to their (Microsoft's) default setting which is to automatically update at 3am every day without notification (even though my computers are all shut down overnight). Pestilential fools. If you install SP3 you may may want to check these two things.

2008-05-09 08:17:00 | Yes it turned on Windows firewall despite me running comodo but the updates time remains as I originally set it to at 10am | gary67 (56) | |
2008-05-10 01:42:00 | Thanks Speedy. I knew I could rely on you for the info. Cheers.Me again Speedy. Sorry to be a pain but I am still not quite sure what to download for SP3. I am running XP Pro with SP2. I have Internet Explorer v7 installed but use Firefox. I presume I download MS08-010 but that doesn't seem to be a big enough file?. What has IE to do with SP3 anyway?. | Pato (2463) | |
2008-05-10 02:13:00 | if you manually run your windows update it will pick up SP3 and download / install it, size approx 66Mb. If you go To This page (www.microsoft.com) you can download the complete Install file, 316Mb, simply download it, once finished downloading, double click the file, and follow onscreen instructions.

2008-05-10 03:25:00 | Be careful of installing XP SP3 on OEM systems with AMD CPUs. Apperently 100s are experiencing BSODS and endless reboots, which may be something to do with the generic Intel power management drivers many OEMs ship with the XP HDD images swhich is normally not activated via a reg key in AMD machines but with SP3 still does and sends the machine apesh1t. | Murray P (44) | |
