Cheers :) I dont know the linguistic rules about your statement and to be honest your intention is clearly understood, but it just sounds wrong. I think it is to do with 'possesive and/or tense'' of 'their'. For some reason your statement sounds like you are talking to someone else about something they (everybody) offered you (their replies). Which in actual fact you were directing your comments directly to the group (everybody) for the replies they gave you. |

| 384502 | 2005-08-30 19:53:00 | "Thanks everybody, for your replies" might have fitted NZ vernacular better . This is an informal forum so similarly informal English is appropriate, but basic rules of grammar, punctuation, and dare I say it, spelling, should be kept in mind . Personally I think your english skills are excellent, and considerably better than many of the native English speakers we see here . Cheers Billy 8-{) |

When I was in Tonga many years ago the winner of the Tongan speech competition for that year was a Palagi (Pakeha) . The reason was because he was not a native speaker he studied the precriptive laws of the language so everything he said was 100% perfect (althugh he had a noticeable accent) . |
