1426681 2016-09-30 19:11:00 Last night my Win 10 laptop received a large update that took hours.

It completed OK and to my surprise everything seemed to be fine except I now have a Store I didn’t have before and don’t want.

However, this morning the Internet on this computer is as slow as a wet week but normal on the other computers.

So, I Google the problem and first up THIS (www.ibtimes.co.uk).

Well that’s very nice of Microsoft to share my Computer & Broadband, generous to a fault.

1426683 2016-09-30 19:55:00 Windows is "owned" by Microsoft. We are able to use it and no doubt, you like me did not have to pay for it. What you get is what Microsoft want you to get but you can get around it. Just follow the item you posted. If you had been able to sit through the install process when upgrading, many of the issues you could have fixed at the time. Bryan (147)

Well in my case the Computer in question came with Windows 8, which was an epic fail and was replaced by windows 8.1 which was also an epic fail, so is being replaced by Windows 10.

In any other business all these “Updates” would be known as “Factory Recalls” and the Company would be broke.

Anyway, in my case, the initial Win 10 update was done from a Flashdrive and I was very careful what I installed making sure all the “kiddy stuff” wasn’t. Actually, I was quite impressed at the speed Win 10 opened and closed but that is no longer the case.

However, the bit that got me going this morning was finding this in the link I posted.

“To minimise the load on its servers during Windows 10 rollout, Microsoft has devised a system which redirects your PC to a file sharing server via P2P sharing services. Consequently, the network services on your PC are actively engaged even when your PC is left idle as Windows Update files stored on your computer are sent to other peers for P2P file-sharing.”

So whilst Microsoft are Squatting in my Computer they are also emptying the Pantry.

Eviction one way or other seems inevitable. :D

1426686 2016-09-30 21:51:00 My better half's pc downloaded the update yesterday afternoon, in the background "no doubt", she had just come off her Hotmail/Outlook emails and was playing the good brand of Solitaire, when her girlfriend rang to tell her to jump onto TradeMe.

Well she cursed and swore when Edge wouldn't load, that bl**dy thing in the background was preventing it.

Left it until after tea and when I went to have a looksee, there were over 15 "e's" on the taskbar.

She can no longer get Solitaire or Spider Solitaire originals and there is now this stupid "XBOX" to f things up.

Is there a way round this ?.

Thanks fellas',

Ps. dare I open my laptop or has Bill already been in and done the nasty ??.

thks,

lurks.

Pps. isn't that P2P site the one that was on 60Minutes couple of weeks back, where they hacked/listened into a Congressman's coversation?.

lurks.

1426687 2016-09-30 21:51:00 B.M. - To address some of your concerns.

The store - Its built into windows and will has been there the whole time, the icon may have not been showing that's all.

The link posted - you do realize its over a year old and a LOT has changed since then. What most people don't actually know is the option hasn't really worked ever since MS put out W10. The newer versions in the insider builds now does, BUT like every OS, again not knowing how to use its setting (windows, Linux or iOS) when this happens the person ALWAYS blames the OS and not the fact they don't have the knowledge as to what they are complaining about Why don't you simply turn it off if its of a concern?
Take you all of 15 seconds.

As for it slowing your internet connection, if it were then it would slow down the other two computers as well.

Its been posted in these forums many times as to how to speed things up, so I'm not writing all out again.

Do you know how many times I've had people call saying their computer is buggered, the son, father, mate down the road knows all about computers and they cant fix it -- (most techs) and I go with an open mind find the problem often within a few minutes and fix it. Makes them eat their words :p
Had a job like that earlier this week, person wouldn't believe me to what the problem was, changed one program and the computer was like new again.

I can tell you right now what the problem actually is-- The fact that the computer has been upgraded from a previous OS instead of a fresh install. 99% of all problem with W10 are from upgrades. Its been know for YEARS that a fresh install will always work better than a upgrade. That as well as possibly using the default settings and not disabling items that don't need to be on. Comes back to not knowing the OS.

Eviction one way or other seems inevitable Seems you cant make up your mind -- If you don't like windows then stop complaining about it, stop using it and get on with installing Linux ;)

1426689 2016-09-30 22:05:00 @ Lurking -- The reason so Many E's would be because if you keep clicking to open they will build up.

The Solitaire or Spider Solitaire originals -- These were removed from W8 onwards, they can be put back in, but just not Via MS. Go to get-windows-7-games-for-windows-10/ (winaero.com) Scroll down the page and under 1. is the download link, its a 146MB Zipped file. Takes you to another page scroll down a little and above the Donate button is the link. Unzip the exe and run it, all your games as per W7 will be back, under games in the menu.
Note: you don't have to install them all, you have options during the install process, by default all are ticked. Takes a moment to run once you first double click the exe.

Here's a hint: if the Computer is running slow or apps not opening ( this goes for B.M as well) open task manager look at the CPU or Memory usage, if its high, scroll down and see if Runtime Broker is running, its often a cause of slowness - if it is, click /end task, your speed will come back instantly. The cause is one of several, process of elimination to turn them off, only takes a minute or two.

This is well documented on a google search. :)

Not bad for a 100/20 UFB connection.

At least I could get 20/20 before the update.
