Win 10 Folders - files seem to open OK. What is " win symbolic link ? symbolic link is a Win pointer for mydocuments myphotos etc . It points to where the folder actually is (is not a shortcut bat has the same effect) what folders cant you get into ? was there any encryption/pass protection on folders ? It might also be a sign of file system corruption or faulty hard drive . run a chkdsk on the HD . |

| 1426369 | 2016-09-23 04:53:00 | By any chance have you changed the screen / Display DPI ? Resolution or changed text/icon sizing ? If so then you may find the settings are not compatible with your display drivers. See this video www.youtube.com One way to test, in search type msconfig - which will bring up system configuration on the boot tab, select safe boot, apply /OK, reboot the computer, it should reboot with default graphics, try the folders, if they open then its probably graphic problems. Just make sure to get back to a normal boot, run msconfig again and return to untick safe moot to return to normal boot. |

| 1426370 | 2016-09-24 00:55:00 | Ran msconfig but must have hit a / some wrong settings. Now. The laptop only gets to the first screen and hangs. It is a gateway ne56r. Running win 10 Do you know the keying combo so that I can change the boot order as I have a recovery. USB | Swampy (2426) | ||
| 1426371 | 2016-09-24 06:12:00 | To get into recovery, since it wont go to the desktop ( even the start screen) press the power button to start, just as it starts ( a few seconds) press and hold in the power button, causing it to shut down again, repeat, after teh third or forth time it should boot into the recovery options. If you need to boot from the USB drive, you may need to go into the BIOS and enable /set the USB as first boot device. Being W10 you may need to revert to legacy startup if it wont allow any other way. Selecting safe boot from msconfig should'nt cause it not to boot, only a safemode option. |
