1423627 2016-07-25 06:49:00 I am about to register a Domain name.
I usually use 'domainname.co.nz', but there is a option of 'domainname.nz' which is on special at half price.
Which one is more Google friendly?
Why is the 'nz' on special?

I thought domain names - including TLD's (top level domain) are relatively cheap anyway. You can test relative ranking of co.nz vs .nz by Google searching for products in NZ. I tested and often domains ending in .co.nz show up. - and authoritative domains. No domains ending in .nz as yet over a range of product searches.

Keyword rich domain names use to be the thing, and short unique names can help. Google have stated this - but constantly evolving their ranking algorithm. Other factors also...Content quality, SEO onsite/offsite features to optimize. MOZ well known in SEO has a good article on Domain Tips (moz.com).

You can register your domain with the very useful Google Search Console (need be signed in to open it), where I have with my niche blogs/sites. it crawls your domains and assess them with great tips on keyword visibility, search traffic, index info, URL factors, security issues, etc. All to help be user friendly to Google and to visitors. Also the bit more advanced Google Analytics is worth signing up to to segment various visitor/referral traffic/device traffic/page views, etc at a more granular level.

Otherwise you get warnings, as I have if you "over optimize" or link too many of your web properties. Been buried with a site of mine, had to redo it and submit back to Google. kahawai chaser (3545)
1423630 2016-07-26 02:44:00 I suggest you register .co.nz as it's more familiar with NZ Internet users, but better still would be to register both unless you're on a really tight budget. And also get a .com if, in the unlikely case, it's available. Greg (193)

Because in the greater scheme of things, .nz just doesn't stand up there with .com :(
