1426711 2016-10-01 08:06:00 7520wainui, thanks again, all in order on this pc, had to download free Winzip.

We increased the mem on here to 8gig when we bought the replacement lappy, which has the same 8gig mem.

Photo of the runtime area and it's not running.

Thks.

1426712 2016-10-01 21:10:00 FYI> The reason for mentioning Runtime Broker is because I had that problem on my own New PC. Plenty of power ( to spare) but sometimes it got brought to a crawl

There's several reasons W10 goes slow, but I had forgotten about this one. Runtime Broker is a program that handles the security subsystem, permissions and functions of the Apps. It was introduced in W8, and sometimes doesn't exactly do what its meant to - in other words it runs wild absorbing CPU and memory. There is no 1 reason this happens. Can be the programs installed, the way the computers is setup etc.

This is also "may" be One of the reasons that B.M. Was complaining about slow internet. Knowing (or remembering) these options can help improve performance all round.

Most people don't use all the apps, so simply disabling them can increase performance, and stop Runtime broker going wild.

Here's How (many will be shocked to see these ) :devil But so what, turn them off.

Open the Privacy option in Settings or in Search type in Privacy - Open Privacy Settings. On the left very bottom - Click Background apps.

Go Nuts-- Turn them all off, Later on when using something if it requires the permissions it will prompt to turn it back on.

You can disable Runtime Broker in the Reg, BUT many have found it doesn't work completely, for example if the app needs some sort of permissions or security then it still runs.

:2cents:

BTW-- Lurking -- I'd disable WinZip, its using a reasonable amount of Memory, and seen some of it is acting as malware. There is no official free version of WinZip, only a free download which is completely different.

1426713 2016-10-01 23:57:00 Grrrrrr, I think I am getting the picture.

All the things I opted out of at the initial install have been installed with the latest update and turned on.

That would also explain how I inherited a Store that I never had before.

And for those following Wainui’s post #32, click your way all the way up the left-hand pane and take a look at what else they are up to.

I’ve turned off everything I could and so far no problems, but a vast improvement in Computer and Internet speed.

Having said that probably not as good as after the initial installation.

1426714 2016-10-02 04:02:00 Well wouldn’t you know it, but my Internet on my Win 10 machine has slowed to almost a stop again and I get a message: A Web-page is slowing you browser, would you like to close it or words to that effect .

Clicking “Yes” doesn’t improve things and my nasty suspicious mind tells me that as this only happened following yesterdays update, it is probably Microsoft trying to stuff up Firefox which is the default browser .

Also, there should be no other Web-pages open .

Anyway, if somebody else running Win 10 Home Build 14393 and Firefox 49 . 0 . 1 could try and view THIS ( . coastalwatch . com/surf-cams-surf-reports/qld/mooloolaba" target="_blank">www . coastalwatch . com) site (It’s the Surfcam at Mooloolaba) and let me know the results it would be appreciated .

And yes that Site is running no problem on my new “You Beaut” Linux Mint Computer . :D

1426715 2016-10-02 04:38:00 Well here is what I'm talking about .

Not bad for a 100/20 UFB connection .

At least I could get 20/20 before the update .

Are you saying that your Linux machine has full 100/20 speeds at the same time of day?

If so, you should be able to see what is going on using Task Manager .

I definitely wouldn't let this slowdown continue without finding out what is causing it . Don't forget, not everything wrong in the world can be pinned on win 10!

1426716 2016-10-02 04:46:00 Runs perfectly fine on W10 + FF 49.0.1, loaded in about 4 seconds, the cam took a bit longer 10 seconds ( after closing pop up ads) , and this includes a transfer of 7.1GB at the same time from this PC to the NAS in the workshop.

Guess that blows your suggestion relating to Microsoft stuffing up Firefox eh !!

Often lately ( about a week or so now), PF1 often freezes on both IE and FF. ALL other sites are fine.

Just seen your speed test -- WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP-- Tried the same site, gets to 20% and stops dead.

Run Speedtest.net and for this time of day on a sunday its not to bad. My plan is 100/10 getting 94.6 /10.06
www.speedtest.net

Meanwhile the site posted in your test B.M is still at 20%

No 20-20 is normal and nobody I know can get anywhere near 100 .

No I'm not saying everything wrong in the world is Win 10's fault but the last update well and truely screwed things on my machine . :groan:

He changed over to UFB (with Vodafone) ran the same speed test, 170 /20. His plan is 200/20 unlimited (I remember the speed as it was almost twice as fast as mine)

HERE (www.geekzone.co.nz) at geekzone 3rd post someone posted their speed test - Well over 100

Edited: as a speed - the page at geekzone loads here in about 1 second using edge. (slower in FF) about 3 seconds.

Well now you’ve done it, you’ve broken the man’s dynamometer with your Ferrari when it was only designed for Mini’s.

Your disgrace aside, by way of observation, I can get pretty near get any speed I like by just changing the Testing Site but it’s always less than 25mbps down. Don’t know anyone in Mount Maunganui or Hamilton that do any better and between them they have a vast cross section of configurations.

Interesting though is we all get 20 up, near enough, regardless of configuration.

All that aside, I’ve run a repair on Firefox, but first start and several later I get the message that “A web page is slowing your browser”. It doesn’t last long but I have managed to click on the option to close it but no difference.

My first instinct is it’s probably some of Microsoft’s “Spyware” trying to call home and can’t, but that is up for discussion.

I’m sure there is an explanation.

Thanks for that, I'd hate to be trying to fix my machine when it's their site. (Did you go for a swim? Better weather than here.) :D

1426720 2016-10-02 06:56:00 The speed in your area -- Maybe you are paying for something you are not getting . . If you are only able to get 25 Maximum then any plan above 30 would be a complete waste of money .

Man you really have a hate against MS . :groan: Going by your theory, using Linux should top out your download speed .

So a Simple question: Posted was a link that was meant to be giving problems . Mine on W10, using what ever browser requested works fine -- WHY ??

Most people don't have a clue as to how the internet actually works and always blame everything apart from the actual real cause .
