1423823 2016-07-31 04:12:00 The only reason private investors would put money into an eradication program is if they received generous tourism concessions on Conservation Estate in return, eg roads and scenic rail through Fiordland NP, roads through the Heaphy and Wangapeka, tourist lodges built everywhere, a zillion helicopter landings and heli-skiing all over the glaciers, gondola cable cars, guided tours etc etc

they are getting all that now courtesy of DOC's lack of funding by this government

1423825 2016-08-11 06:29:00 Episode 3 'New Arrivals' has been available for a few days.

Thanks for the heads up Terry :)

I've just got around to watching it, and it's just as captivating viewing as the first two. This episode looks at the more recent couple of hundred years, the arrival of man, imported animals, but then looks in depth at the survival of the Kakapo and what we're doing to help it survive.

Again, not the usual documentary fare, this program is superbly captivating in anybody's language. Voiced by Sam Neil.

1423829 2016-09-05 11:23:00 Seems as though the Beeb is living up to its reputation as the most bureaucratic of the British bureaucracy.

Just tried to purchase the three episodes in the series (for the princely sum of GBP7.00 (NZ12.75)) via PayPal but payment will only be accepted from a UK Bank. Same with Entropay. And then only if your address is confirmed by PayPal or Entropay as being located in the UK, Ireland, or Channels.

Grrrr :annoyed:

1423830 2016-09-05 22:48:00 Don't forget the weasels - they are just as bad.

And do you know the difference between a stoat and a weasel?

A stoat is weasily recognisable and a weasel is stoatily different.:groan: I just thought you'd like to know.

And . . . . . it is not just the BBC . Radio and TV licencing in the UK has been a bone of contention since the year dot, it is effectively another tax and source of revenue .

The licence is not just a fee to watch TV (BBC or others) or to listen to radio, it is a fee paid to the government for the privilege of being allowed to install the reception equipment .

Even if the equipment is never used, or BBC is never watched or listened to, the fee is compulsory .

Quote:

" Do I need a TV Licence if I don’t watch BBC programmes?

A TV Licence is a legal permission to install or use television equipment to receive (i . e . watch or record) TV programmes, as they are being shown on TV or live on an online TV service, and to download or watch BBC programmes on demand, including catch up TV, on BBC iPlayer . This applies regardless of which channel you're watching, which device you are using (TV, desktop computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet or any other), and how you receive them (terrestrial, satellite, cable, via the internet or in any other way) .

The licence fee is not a subscription to watch BBC programmes but mandated by law . Under the Communications Act 2003, the BBC in its role as the licensing authority has a duty to issue TV Licences and collect the licence fee . "
