You'll find that if you normally log in from an IP address based in, say Auckland NZ, and then you magically time-warp to somewhere 2-3 hours away by flight (Maybe Christchurch or Sydney), then it'll flag it. It'll only offer to verify with another address if you've not setup account recovery, so basically coz you were a lazy ass for a disposable address, it's trying to be helpful and get you back into it, presuming you've locked yourself out. Had you *actually* setup the account recovery stuff, like with your primary email as a backup or your cellphone number, then you wouldn't be prompted for that. Were the flip side the case and you'd locked yourself out, how pissed would you be that Google had incorrectly locked you out, and you couldn't get back in, all because you skimped on setting up your account security? So no, this isn't Google's fault by any stretch of imagination... |

That was setup. I couldnt remember what ph no & what email adress I had setup for recovery (or even if they were just made up) . I had no access to the recovery email at the time anyway Not the point. Gmail shouldnt be blocking webmail just because I logged in from another PC , in the same city, from a business/static IP I had accessed from before. As I said, access from another country, then OK block it. From a location used previously: just why (check the IP) And it should NEVER had offered confirmation from a random email it scraped out of sent/received . |
