1426338 2016-09-24 02:31:00 Could do, but cant uninstall the other, it's part of the OS.
Bit like putting a different transmision in your car & leaving the other one there as well.

1426339 2016-09-24 03:53:00 Found your answer -- At great personal risk (had to try and get the android tablet from SWMBO - and still getting the evil eye - am I scared -- YEP! :annoyed: :stare: )

Installed Chrome, and after a bit of playing about and bit of searching its "Well Durhhhhhhhhh." :waughh:

What you do -- Doesn't matter if you have 1 or more tabs open. On ANY tab Press and hold the X to close the tab - A box will pop up, "close all tabs", tap that. Next time you open Chrome it will reopen on the default google page.

Note: When you close all tabs the screen will go blank with a + top left, click that to open a new tab/home or next time you open Chrome normally = Home page.

1426340 2016-09-24 06:35:00 Firstly, I'm sorry you had to put your life on the line like that.

It's not that big an issue really.

You are 100% correct in what you say there.
I am assuming the said tablet was something other than a Sony, if you had to install Chrome.
So I had a look on my SWMBO's Samsung Galaxy which does have Chrome as default.
I works exactly as you describe.

Also if I use the same method to close browser tabs on my Sony if will then open to the home page.
Which is good.
But Sony in their infinate wisdom have added a aditional soft button which is in effect a app manager.
Is is quicker to use this to close one or all of the running apps & return to the home page.
It is when this action is used that the issue raises it's head.
So in effect as there is no set startup tab it defaults to the last open one.
In the Sony help section it does state you can set a home & startup page & they can be the same or different.

You can tell Chrome to open to any webpage.
1. On your computer, open Chrome.
2. At the top right, click More .
3. Click*Settings. (If you're using a Chromebook, click "Show advanced settings" at the bottom of the page.)
4. Under "On startup," click*Open a specific page or set of pages.
5. Click*Set pages.
6. Enter the web address of the page you want to see when you open Chrome.
7. Click*OK.

However when you go into the settings options 4 5 & 6 are not available.

1426341 2016-09-24 14:50:00 Android keeps program instances running. You are not seeing last page, you are getting your instance of that program back.

In developer options, theres a setting that ends programs when closed. Enable that.

If developer option isnt in settings, go to about phone/tablet, now I cant remember if you press kernel or build, about 10 times to get it. You know its right when the counter appears telling you how many presses are left.

1426342 2016-09-24 20:19:00 Maybe for now, search the play store for an app to set/customize home page... kahawai chaser (3545)
1426343 2016-09-24 20:55:00 Setting the home page is not the issue.
That can be achieved easily.
It's the startup page that can't be set.

1426344 2016-09-24 23:42:00 Maybe can't be specifically done for mobile. Therefore workarounds - like creating a shortcut/bookmark - i.e in chrome, with your desired webpage (e.g. Google Search), one way is to press menu button then select Add to home screen. And use the newly created icon to click on to open. It's what I have (i.e. several home screens) for some news/blogs that don't have an app (or ideal usable app).

Also if you long press the menu button (for Android 6 anyway) it should show a cascade of previously open web pages and apps - you could try that approach.

1426345 2016-09-25 20:36:00 I'm with Driftwood on this but, thanks to kahawai, there is a workaround! So easy. Why didn't I think of that (don't answer that!).

Cheers.
