| 1426646 | 2016-09-30 00:16:00 | Installed Symantec Endpoint Server 12.1 Trial i.e anti virus & firewall protection and have two questions.... 1) Appears installed okay and says it's okay when you open the manager yet does not display icon on task-bar to confirm it's actually running...services running okay it would appear and just no icon?? 2) I assume once installed that you don't need to setup clients or policies if you are only protecting the server it's actually installed on ??? So far these simple questions have proved beyond Symantec tech support etc so was wondering if anybody can help or comment or advise as I only have another 40 days to trial before I have to buy etc....seems reasonably priced...?? www.symantec.com |

Depending on what OS it is you may have to go into the taskbar properties / settings and select it to appear. 2. If its only protecting a server that its on then you shouldn't have to setup others, but you may want to set up policies. BUT don't rely on it protecting other computers that the server is feeding, it wont always. Had one earlier this week, the lady had endpoint on her laptop, which normally connects to their server at her work (not to sure what version) and after cleaning out all the malware and browser hijacks the laptop worked much better :) |

Running Server 2012 R 2. ....if you go into taskbar properties to try to add you can't even see it and so can't add but when you open the manager it says status all okay etc so must be running okay?? Should I bother with or go back to MS Security essentials as server protection is bloody costly or are the cheaper option that you'd receommend.Endpoint about NZ$85 for one license which is okay .... Appreciate your comments and advice.....Wainutech..... |

| 1426649 | 2016-10-02 21:55:00 | ESET has a good Server AV . Preconfigured to exclude some of the system folders . ESET also have centralised AV administration software (for AV admin of the workstatons) : thats fairly easy to setup and works very well (its not pertfect though) Just what are you trying to achieve. Home many PC's connect to this server , or is it just something you are running at home Do you want centralized AV admin Is the server used by anyone as a workstation (it happens) , or TS, or often via RDC ? Do you want email AV scanning on the server at exchange level? Add 'for server' to the name of most software , and the cost seems to go up considerably :) I would try the ESET server AV : just so easy to install . Some server software is just ridiculously complex to setup , go for something easy to setup/manage/maintain . |

| 1426650 | 2016-10-03 02:53:00 | it's just being used at home so only protecting itself i.e the host so don't want to spend big bucks and endpoint seemed well priced but as you say complex to setup etc...I'll be running alot of drives on it ...It makes a great desktop etc and no remote connections for now..etc Thanks for your tips and I'll try ESET server AV..... |

| 1426651 | 2016-10-05 09:06:00 | I have only had experience with Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and then deployed to the clients. If what you have is the same then the management software does not install a locally installed version of the AV software unless you do so. What you have maybe completely different and standalone AV for server but if its management then it will not install local protection by default. ESET is way easier to configure. |
