1426460 2016-09-25 00:00:00 I noticed yesterday that I was getting Firewall prompts for two programs that normally work fine, My Tivo desktop and Dropbox. When I click on allow they go away but next time I login they come back. Also I can't turn off my Windows Firewall, it comes straight back on again. I also notice that when I put my Getflix DNS address into the network settings it's getting deleted and returned to automatic. I've had a look via Google but the suggestions there don't help.

My PC is running Win 7 64 bit pro build 7601 SP1 and NOD 32 9.0.386.0. Not sure if this is a NOD 32 thing or a Windows 7 thing. Would be so bad if when I allow things access it would remember it. Have run a malware check that showed up nothing..

Any thought??

Thanx in advance..

1426461 2016-09-25 00:18:00 Nod32 Doesn't have a firewall, only the Smart security version does.

Is it the Windows firewall that's prompting ?

Are you using a static IP or dynamic --- Reason for asking Read on their site getflix.zendesk.com

1426462 2016-09-25 04:15:00 Windows firewall and PC running DHCP and dynamic ISP IP address. I was trying to use the Getflix DNS . The IP address is validated but their DNS will not stay in the DNS setting of the network. It reverts back to Automatic DNS. That part doesn't worry me now as I only used it to get US Netflix via Getflix. I can still use the Gletflix VPN or boot into the Windows 10 partition.

I had a look at the lated Windows updates and over the past few days and went back via system restore to last Friday before this happened but it didn't fix it just made things worse. I had to remove then reinstall Chrome browser and one app was screwed.. Both fixed now..

1426463 2016-09-26 07:04:00 When Chrome browser started asking to access the network everytime I started it I'd had enough. Did a Googlew search and found out how to diable it via Local Policy.

Now no more nagging. Still don't know why it suddenly did what it did..

1426464 2016-09-26 07:38:00 The behavior you report is just not normal and the answer is not to plaster over the cracks. Your aim should be to get the system running correctly, not altering policy settings.

You are also reporting changes reverting back. All this suggests you should be concentrating on going all out with malware checks. What have you run as reported in post #1?

I'd be running multiple malware checks. If you had been doing regular backup imaging I'd also seriously consider going back to one of those.

1426465 2016-09-26 20:06:00 I have run Malware and NOD32 checks and nothing but the usual minor things turned up. I normally have my firewall turned off at home in this partition.

Setting the firewall off still did not allow me to set the Quickflix DNS entries even when the PC was set to fixed IP address.. That part doesn't worry me as Getflix I think has given up on Netflix like all the rest have ..

1426466 2016-09-26 22:39:00 Still a bit weird. Hope you get some closure on this, Paul.

Good luck.

1426467 2016-09-27 20:08:00 So do I. May end up reinstalling Win 7 but would most likely migrate to the Windows 10 partition. This PC is a triboot one. Win XP, Win 7 and Win 10 Preview. I have another Win 7 PC at work with the same version of windows 7 some i dug it out of the pile of junk and running up the 26 updates to see what happens with it.. paulw (1826)
