| 1426256 | 2016-09-20 16:29:00 | I can get Internet on my cell phone anywhere but not my laptop. Why? and how can I fix this where my laptop can get Internet anywhere like my cell phone. You go to a hotel and they charge you for wi-fi so you can hook up to the Internet with your laptop. | lostsoul62 (16011) | ||

You go to a hotel and they charge you for wi-fi so you can hook up to the Internet with your laptop. Your phone connects Via 3 or 4G normally, which is different to Wireless on a laptop. The phone of course can connect to a wireless connections as well. That's what happens here with SWMBO, she has her phone on 4G when away from home, but as soon as shes within range of our wireless it switches over. As Renmoo posted, tethering to the phone would be the way to go, think of it as a portable modem. Example: www.howtogeek.com |

You could also set it up as an access point/hotspot and connect your laptop to it. Other things you could do is purchase a 3G/4G dongle or T-stick device and purchase data to use with your laptop. |

If you want to stream Videos forget it. The why is simple, as others have said the phone uses the cellular network for 3G/4G data and most laptops don't have that capability. |

I mainly use "Tethering" but sometimes if the Tethering cable has been put away in a less accessible bag Then I use the Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot option on the phone to give Internet access on my PC |
