1423895 2016-07-31 09:20:00 I was using Windows 7 - very good. Tried Windows 8, didn't like it so went back to Windows 7.
Installed Windows 10, not very impressed apart from the fact that it was quite fast, too much unnecessary garbage.
My son has a Windows 8.1 Disk so I tried it. I love it! Fast, stable, no problems with drivers, much neater Start panel, with apps panel instead of the terrible start menu, better looking windows, old type calculator. I don't need to talk to my computer either. I am now fully converted to W8.1. I may have another look at W10 in a few months time when there will be a crack to demolish Cortana.

1423896 2016-07-31 09:48:00 I have Windows 8.1 PC. It did take me a little while to get used to it, possibly because I had a new camera, tablet and phone practically at the same time and was learning all their little idiosyncrasies. I did try upgrading it to Windows 10 but it went so far then shut down. When I restarted it, Microsoft had reverted it back to Windows 8.1. I called in my trusty Techie and the same thing happened. A bit of research, on his part, indicated that my HP model wasn't going to upgrade without causing a few other problems. I'm happy to stick with it until such time as I get a new PC.
At the moment we have one PC Windows 7, a laptop Windows 10 and this one, Windows 8.1. I use all three at times.

1423897 2016-08-07 03:00:00 Like it's been said already Cortana installs but unless you install a language it supports, you cant use it. Since Cortana doesnt work in NZ anyway Speedy Gonzales (78)
1423898 2016-08-07 04:06:00 Windows 10 start screen can be set to look like 8.1 if you prefer it, not many do. Also there's tablet mode which defaults to that.
Personally I don't find 8.1 and 10 particularly different apart from the start screen which is just cosmetic.

You never "needed" to talk to your computer, it's an option if you chose to use it that's all. Actually windows 7, 8, and 10 all have voice control options that hardly anyone ever bothers with. Not the same as Cortana but they are still there.

My PC's regional settings are all set to New Zealand settings, it's just Cortana that uses the Australian speech settings.

So, it does work in New Zealand, just takes a tiny bit of setting up :)
