668649 2008-05-12 10:40:00 The screen on my Compac laptop has died. It works fine with another monitor plugged into it. I have just noticed that if I shine a bright light onto the laptop screen I can just see the image on the screen. Any idea if this is repairable? Its about 4 years old. Andrew B (867)
668650 2008-05-12 10:46:00 depends on what died, the inverter for the backlight or the backlight fluoro. both failing in any case would cause the dead screen syndrome williamF (115)

Is there an easy way to tell which of those faults may have happenned?

668652 2008-05-12 11:03:00 not really but the tubes generally last a while until it reaches its half-life (half brightness) so its most likely the inverter williamF (115)
