| 386804 | 2005-09-08 09:14:00 | Nice in theory. But seeing as they haven't got Quantum processors out of the lab yet - they're only playing around with 7 qubit stuff so far - not to mention a rather interesting little problem they have struck - an issue with storing and keeping the data in a solid state qubit for long enough to calculate - this is known as coherence. Suddenly coherence disappears... HP has been working on a new type - with photons. Fibre optic can have multiple signals due to the fact that photons don't interact but qubits need to interact. In the HP model individual laser pulses in turn act as negotiators to entangle the 2 photons. Usually the problem with checking the state of the entangled photons leads to their annihilation, however HP has developed it so only the laser pulses are annihilated. But this is as far as things have progressed. |
