386535 2005-09-06 12:22:00 Hi all

Does anyone here remember Y2k? In fact, I'll rephrase that . Does anyone here NOT remember y2k? It was a bit of a joke, in hindsight . The possibility of nuclear war because of incorrect dates in Russian military equipment . . . or, in fact, anything happening at the stroke of Midnight on Jan 1st 2000, was a bit of a joke .

Read a bit more here: . archive . org/web/*/http://y2k . govt . nz" target="_blank">web . archive . org ( . archive . org/web/*/http://y2k . govt . nz" target="_blank">http:)

Anyway:

Does anyone remember the 'B y2k ready' fridge magnets? I'm looking for one . More specifically I'm looking for a photo of one - I've dredged the web high and low, to no avail .

Maybe someone has one stuck to their fridge?

$2 via bank transfer goes to the first one to find one for me and photograph it . I'll take anything over 1 Megapixel . Yes, I'm serious . Post it, right here .

386536 2005-09-06 12:57:00 Yes I've got one.
And of course it's still on the fridge (We don't change things fast down this way)
But I can't send you a pic because:
Camera has no film - and anyway, it's not digital.
No doubt someone else will do better, though.
If there's no desperate rush, I can post you the magnet itself - provided I get it back, as my little piece of history.
Let's see how we go...

Have a scanner?

386538 2005-09-06 22:27:00 I thought it was "be y2k wise", and it did have some major problems the baked beans at tesco's showed up as being out of date when run across the store scanners (although less baked beans being consumed may help the atmosphere) Morgenmuffel (187)

Now that's not a stupid idea. Yep that'll do.

386540 2005-09-07 06:14:00 But if you remove that magnet, Laura, the refrigerator's date will immediately revert to Jan 1, 1900; it will decide that it wasn't built then so it doesn't exist, and dump all its contents in a heap in the middle of the floor .

You thought that Y2K was a myth, hah?

Think again, suckers .

386541 2005-09-07 06:38:00 Whaddya mean - that'll do - combined with the comment about a scanner? That wasn't me.
Or do you mean snailmail? ....in which case, you've just lost a day..
Can you guys not READ?,
I've been restraining myself all day from replying to the scanner comment.
Sorry, Steve, but puleeze... (Gee, I wonder if Laura's got a scanner, but doesn't know what she can do with it?)
Nigel's magnet wording wasn't ours -& Tescos gave away northern hemisphere baked beans.
So Graham's post actually make most sense so far.
Give that man a tin of Watties.

386543 2005-09-07 21:26:00 Hehehe . . . . read this thread then checked fridge, sure enough there was an old faded magnet "Be Ready" . :waughh:

Put out by the "Y2K Readiness commission"
At the time it was of mild concern, but all seems laughable now .
