386432 2005-09-06 10:57:00 some info here:

Basically, if you want Act to get in, you need to either give them the party vote, or give Rodney Hide the electrate vote in Epsom (if you live there).

386434 2005-09-06 11:01:00 This coming from the guy who gave us a 1000 word detailed break down on the fundementals of Anarchy?

Hmmmmm......A cunning plan to get others to explain something you want others to understand without writing it all up yourself?

386435 2005-09-06 11:14:00 MMP is not a simple system but easier than STV - which is better but far more complex . STV was used for the health board elections with the consequence that it took 6 weeks for the final results . Nevertheless STV produces a fairer result .

Anyway, all we need to know about MMP is that the more electoral seats a party wins, the more list seats it gets .
Theoretically a party can win seats without any electorate, but I don't think this has been done in NZ . They need at least 5% list votes and thats harder than it sounds .

One guiding principle is to vote for the local person whom you think will best represent your electorate - Labour, Progressive, Monster Raving Looney etc . And give your list vote to the party you favour .

However I suspect most of us vote red/red or red/green or blue/blue, or blue/green . Picking the most decent local person comes second to politics .

I seem to recall voting Green and ACT at one stage . Despite being capitalist by nature, I love this country and don't like the way the landscape is being changed .

Right . Off for a tofu-on-toast, soybean Milo, and to bed . :D

386437 2005-09-06 11:19:00 Me still thinks its a ruse, perhaps to demonstate to National suporters to also give a vote to ACT,just to get them over the 5%.

anyhow,there is a quiz,,,

and it seems to be aimed at toddlers....

More precisely, the more party votes a party gets, the more seats in parliament it gets (i . e . not just list seats) .

Put very simply, if a party gets 10% of the party vote, it gets 10% of the seats in parliament (10% of 120 = 12 seats) .

This is why the party vote is the more powerful vote, because it determines the number of seats in parliament it gets .
