| 386365 | 2005-09-06 03:48:00 | Surely you should ask what people prefer and why? And if they have used any alternative... I rate Linux alongside W98 in many aspects, though that is blown right out of the water when you see what a Linux-head can do..... |

| 386367 | 2005-09-06 04:23:00 | Groan, i wonder how many bannings and name callings this thread will generate, the natives have been quiet recently Windows because 1) I already own the software 2) Dreamweaver doesn't run on Linux (yes i know about wine, but it's slow and unstable with dreamweaver ) 3) Games are more likely to run on windows 4) Not all products come with Linux drivers (must check if my printer is supported properly now) don't get me wrong, I like linux, if dreamweaver and fireworks ran on linux I would probably use it all the time, but they don't, IMHO NVU, Bluefish etc just aren't as good at the end of the day, If I just surfed the net and did officey type stuff Linux would be fine I would dearly love to see linux succeed, but i think some of the open source zealots need to pull their heads in and realise that there is a place for closed source software if they want linux to succeed they are going to need companies like adobe and macromedia to support the platform (not to mention game makers, and not just id) :2cents: Let the flaming begin |

| 386371 | 2005-09-06 05:23:00 | A mac running OS X or a mac running Linux ? And is that a mac using a powerpc or x86 chip? Macs are far too expensive (considering you have to purchase Applecare to get a warranty better than a year) . The apps are there to get the job done and it looks okay . Performance is annoying at times . At least you don't have to worry about virus/worm of the month . Most Linux users really couldn't care about commerical software  I'm flameproof as I have to use all 3 platforms every day . Crappy hardware actually annoys me far more than the OS . :2cents: |
