385748 2005-09-03 04:56:00 Linspire (formally known as Lindows) is a commercial Linux distribution. It is aimed at novices. As a promotion, Linspire are giving away free digital versions of their Linspire Five-0 until September 6th. The digital version means you have to download the ISO and burn the CD yourself (rather than the identical boxed version). :)

You can go here to read about the offer and for the instructions - Offer (info.linspire.com)

Unfortunately the servers are being hammered at the moment, but if you are interested just keep trying. The offer has been posted on Slashdot as well, which probably doesn't help

385752 2005-09-03 06:05:00 If you're thinking of getting the freebie, but don't want to cue up... might help to know that as long as you register before the 6th and add the file into your 'downloads' on the site you can then go back and download it later when the rush is over.

This will be my first go at Linux, pity it doesn't support half the hardware I have just bought... but maybe one day I can give Windoze the boot :(

385753 2005-09-03 06:31:00 Bugger I've been trying for ages,

is the bit torrent way faster?I'm using the torrent, and currently getting about 20-50 KB/s download speed. I saw the queue for the ftp/http site was 250 requests still pending.

[edit]
The torrent speed has jumped to around 120 KB/s now.

385755 2005-09-03 06:46:00 I use Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/) which uses UPnP with the router ports (if your ADSL router supports this). Jen (38)
385756 2005-09-03 07:03:00 Any chance you've got a direct link to the torrent? Chilling_Silence (9)
