668569 2008-05-14 03:51:00 Hi guys. A new boy on the block here. I too am on a sluggish dialup so I did the crafty thing and downloaded SP3 on a broadband link at work, took it home on a flash drive then installed it. To find the URL I just Googled the KB number which took me to the right place at MS. But, am I ever sorry I did all this. Like a whole host of other unhappy users around the globe I ended up with my PC going into an endless reboot loop with no way of stopping it. Safe Mode and Last Known Good Config didn't work either. So after consulting the IT gurus at work I took the drastic step of reinstalling XP SP2. I didn't reformat my C Drive. The thing I don't know now is have all the Windows updates I've been downloading for the last umpteen months been waxed or should they still be intact? If anyone out there can tell me I would be ever so grateful. theyoungones (13727)

668571 2008-05-14 03:58:00 Welcome to Press F1 - If you have done a repair install, or a complete format / install, all the updates will have been deleted, I'm afraid you will need to re down load them again.

OR install SP3, which would not be a good Idea, as you may get the reboots again.

Go to Windows XP update, you will soon find out what is missing and needed.

668573 2008-05-14 12:33:00 Thnaks to you all. I think I'll leave it for a while, given I have an AMD chip! Ans I will try to locate the DialUpMonitor mentioned by Robin S. Cheers

DialupMonitor - download from 1.4.2.0. If you need v. 1.4.1.0 add /dialupmonitor/dlpm1410.exe" target="_blank">skynergy.com for v. 1.4.2.0. If you need v. 1.4.1.0 add (I hope the latter link still works).

If you install this, be aware that uninstalling it removes the entire folder containing the prog, so keep a copy of the download file in a separate folder.

668575 2008-05-16 09:52:00 I am convinced! I do not need to download XP SP3, yet! It has so many glitches, I'll wait till MS iron them out, and then I'll think about it! Cheers. A Team (13613)
